History
Shades of Green was not always operated by the US Military. The hotel opened as Disney's Golf resort being operated by Disney Parks and Resorts and opened in December 1973. People did not really stay at the resort due to the feeling that the hotel's theme did not fit their demographic. Disney Changed the name to the Disney Inn in February 1986 and the hotel took up the theme of Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Drawfs. When the military was looking to building a new hotel at the Disney World for the Armed Forces Recreation Centers an agreement could not be reached on a site of a new hotel, Disney agreed to rent the hotel to the Armed Forces.
