For 'Register office', Wikipedia clearly states 'United Kingdom' in the heading and the text explains the unique situation in the UK. The OSM wiki also mentions "United Kingdom" and says "registers births, marriages, and deaths," but actually uses the term for all kinds of registrars. (Motor vehicle, real estate, etc.) To avoid confusion, this tag should either be removed or updated to be pan-regional. - Discussion Article

This may differ from the functions of a typical national registry office (bureau of justice). Make sure it is a registry for births, marriages, deaths, etc. and not a registry for real estate, commercial, or corporate registrations. |
Used to mark a register office, where births, marriages and deaths may be registered, and marriage and partnership ceremonies may be performed.
In the UK, a Register office is distinct from a registrar, who may have an office inside another municipal building solely for the purpose of taking registrations, not performing ceremonies.
How to map
Mark the boundary of the register office using an Area or place a Node in the middle of the site.
Tag it with office=government + government=register_office.
