Steve8 has a complete set and I have about 120 sheets. Only a small part are out of copyright. The duration of the copyright is a bit of an open issue IMHO. We are seeking donations for addional scans, unless someone has an A0 scanner. Talk to Steve8 about that. --TimSC 08:22, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

I can't see where England and Wales is mentioned, but the focus on Scotland is incidental due to the copyright of sheets elapsing an almost random order. Eventually we will have the whole of the UK from 7th series. --TimSC 08:22, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

Merkaartor instructions

How do I add as a background for Merkaartor? I successfully added NPE using a TMS server, but I can't work out how to get this WMS server working. --tms13 17:58, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

Update - having looked at timsc.dev.osm.org, I found a TMS service: ooc.openstreetmap.org, /os7/%1/%2/%3.jpg, 256, 6, 15 - is this the correct service to use? --tms13 17:58, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

Accuracy

Just one data point, but I thought it might be of interest: I took 57°30'N, 5°45'W and discovered that the graticule intersection on the map appeared 80m SW to WSW of the correct position. This is roughly consistent with the difference between the map and my surveys in that area. Another datum: 57°20'N, 5°45'W appears out by 75m in the same direction.--tms13 12:17, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

I wouldn't rush to investigate, given that I've inspected some maps in my collection and I'm finding features that have shifted 50-100m relative to the grid lines between 7th Series and 21st-century editions! --tms13 13:31, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Looking at the grid square near WGS84 57.5021, -5.7560, this seems to be about 30 metres out based on the grid. The rest is indeed survey error I guess! Nice tracing in that area, btw! --TimSC 21:37, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Time to admit to a schoolboy error - the lat/long graticule on OS maps is of course on the OSGB36 datum and Airy ellipsoid. So 57°30'N, 5°45'W should appear at `echo -5.75 57.5' | cs2cs -v -f "%f" +datum=OSGB36 +ellps=airy +proj=latlon +to +datum=WGS84 +proj=latlon`, namely -5.751151,57.499725 in WGS84. Which is about 10m away when viewed in Merkaartor, or 1½ pixels - certainly not an issue. So I retract my query! --tms13 23:19, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

for all tiles at this zoom level on this sheet - can this be fixed?

Strange. The server is saying "403 forbidden" but those tiles don't even exist yet! e.g. [1] --TimSC 21:36, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Map key?

Is there a map key available anywhere for these maps? I think it would be useful. I see there is one for the NPE maps on their wiki page (New Popular Edition), but I can't see anything for the 7th Series. --Vclaw 00:55, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Seventh Series on SABRE Maps

Hi all,

I've merged the tiles here with my own collection of Seventh Series maps and put the results on SABRE Maps here. If you want tiles, they can be found in http://www.sabre-roads.org.uk/maps/tiles/7th. About half of Britain is online at the moment.

Since this a derived work from the original tiles, I would guess it comes under CC-BY-NC.

I wouldn't go running out and tracing from them just yet, as my scans were done on an A3 scanner and merged with Hugin, so there are various errors along folds, though hopefully the calibration has corrected some of that (all maps are calibrated at least every 100km^2, plus all four corners and any meeting point between a "thick" 10km line and the edge of the map).

I've also written a GUI front end for warp-gbos (written in C#, though it doesn't seem to work under mono for some reason), that I can put online somewhere if anyone else is interested. --Ritchie333 14:22, 30 March 2011 (BST)
