Street names
Do we have rules for street names? Most names are different in French and Dutch. Should we always have keys name as ‘French name - Dutch name’ or the other order, or just one language? Adding name:fr and name:nl is helpful but it doesn't seem to be done in general. It would also be useful to have newlines instead of dash to separate some bilingual names that are really long. --Moyogo 15:52, 22 November 2007 (UTC) Actually what would be really useful is if both name:fr and name:nl could be displayed by default and formatted (with a dash, by themselves but both there, or with a newline for stations, amenities, etc.) by the engine. I guess the engine would need to know what languages should be used by default, in case there are more name:lang with non-official languages. --Moyogo 16:30, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well so far the map tiles are NOT live rendered, so the preferences of the reader are not known, so it is only the 'name' tag that is rendered, 'name:lg' is only there for info so far ...The order 'Rue - Straat' could also be 'Straat - Rue' , I used it on some streets that already had allready the flemish name but not the french one. There's no rules ... For newlines to be possible, the streets should be wider ... so it's not an option....For the capitalization , I also strated with the 'rue...' but it seems that the 'Rue...' is the good way to do it ...(I'll try to find the source again (ooops you found it) --PhilippeP 21:43, 22 November 2007 (UTC)...
- New lines was not a suggestion for streetnames but for stations, squares, villages, etc. For name:lg, I was thinking of specifying (with a tag yet to be defined) what languages the renderer should use when rendering. --Moyogo 18:36, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
City maps - Brussels European Quarter
Hi there, I was wondering if anyone was willing to look into creating a map of the European Quarter in Brussels for this Wikipedia article. Just something simple showing the locations of the EU buildings, major roads, squares and parks. I've been trying to do it myself basing the street layout on Google maps and overlaying the locations from here but my graphics skills aren't any where good enough for something this complex. Just trying to get the outline of Parliament here ended in me producing something akin to a kids painting. If anyone is interested, please contact me on my wikipedia talk page, I'd be most grateful. Thanks. JLogan 09:27, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
