I recommend using ref=A123 instead of name=A123 for the Autobahn and ref=B123 instead of name=B123 for the Bundesstrasse; I do not recommend the use of class=Autobahn etc, because class is an old scheme and superseded by the highway scheme. Redundant information is added by the use of the class key, and it is not of use for map rendering because it is not included in Map Features. The europe street numbering scheme (E123) should be included using the tag int_ref as defined in Map Features. Wollschaf 14:14, 19 September 2006 (BST)

To adequately tag different roads, we need more subtle differences to be covered; The current highway scheme is by far not manifold enough, IMHO. Wollschaf 14:14, 19 September 2006 (BST)

My fear is that we end up with data like the one currently used in google maps or my route planner; Small roads are all the same, it's hard to use the map in an area you don't know. I once was sent through a vineyard by my route planner and just don't want that to happen with OSM data... I'd like to ask why the value "unclassified" is not listed/used /recommeded as well as "service". I'd use unclassified for inner city roads that are smaller than secondary or similar size as residential, but not surrounded by residential buildings. Delete this page?

I propose to delete this page. We have De:Map_Features and De:Germany roads tagging. Several pages with the same Information generate more confusion than structure. This page in english brings no effort there is nobody who keeps it up to date.

Ich schlage vor diese Seite zu löschen. Wir haben De:Map_Features and De:Germany roads tagging. Mehrere Seiten mit derselben Information stiften mehr Verwirrung als Ordnung. Diese Seite bringt keinen zusätzlich Vorteil und wird kaum aktuell gehalten.

Yes, plaese delete this page - the duplicate description is confusing. De:Map_Features should be the only and binding definition.
