Greek or Latin alphabet

Is there a recommendation which letters to be used for name=* in stops and lines? I feel the most natural would be to use both alphabets, e.g. name=ΧΑΝΙΑ and name:en=CHANIA. --GerdHH (talk) 13:07, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

Routes without line numbers

In Greece regional buses usually dont't have line numbers, but city buses have. As a result, a transport map (e.g.: osm.org, ÖPNV-Karte) shows IDs (line numbers) for the city buses only, while regional buses are represented by a nameless red line. Thus it is impossible to follow the course of the regional bus in the city. Clicking at a bus stop, for "connecting lines", you only see ",,,,". Are there any ideas to solve this problem? (Cf. Talk:Public_transport#Routes_without_line_numbers) May be creating an ID, combing a code for the KTEL company (00-61, using their position on the central homepage), one digit for the time table groups the company uses, and two digits for the time table position within the group. This would make e.g. 60004 for my favourite CHANIA-CHORA SFAKION bus of KTEL Chania-Rethymnon (61st company, 1st group, 5th route, counting started with 0). This could be tagged e.g. as unsigned_ref=60004 or ref:X=60004. Cool and dirty. --GerdHH (talk) 11:42, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

A mnemonic (and thus better handable) scheme could be using the  vehicle registration code (or the best identifiable of them, if there is more than one) for major cities (e.g. ΧΝ, ΡΕ, ΗΚ, ΑΝ for Crete) and an easily identifiable 3-letter-code for minor cities, combined as "<from>-<to>" (major city first). Airport destinations could be identified by their well-known  IATA code. Thus my favourite CHANIA-CHORA SFAKION bus would get the ref=ΧΝ-ΣΦΑ and the Chania airport shuttle ref=ΧΝ-CHQ. I am aware that it is bad practice to invent ids not found on the ground (and at the bus), but such a generic ref would make the bus route identifiable on maps like OpenStreetMap and is a prerequisite for analysis tools like PTNA.--GerdHH (talk) 15:14, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
