Difference between this and a Via Ferrata?
The page text says "This tag is meant for hiking trails, it shouldn't be used for via ferrata because those ways are secured continuously by technical means". What does that mean? How should a mapper distinguish between 2 Via Ferratas which are connected by hiking trails at both ends and in between, and an assisted trail? --Jeisenbe (talk) 04:56, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
- Usually a Via Ferrata has a beginning and an end and should be more or less continuosly protected with various type of gear such as ropes, steel cables, abseil anchors, rugs, etc.
The trails to approach the start to the ferrata and the end can be mapped as paths.
I think we should use a little bit of common sense to distinguish what can indeed be considered a real ferrata and what are just short protected part of an hiking trail. Tepepaz (talk) 09:25, 13 December 2022 (UTC)
