Discouraging use
Given that the only "consumer" of this tag is the JOSM validator, I've added a warning to not use it. Can we do something stronger? - —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pnorman (talk • contribs)
- How is this tagging for the validator? This kind of term is only used when the tag used adds a wrong meaning to the object for the sake of a tool, which is not the case of public_transport:version=*. I don't see a good reason for the warning you added, so I'm removing it. If your concern is the data consumers, please explain in the page this tag is only used by JOSM validator for disambiguation of schemas, and may not be useful at all for data consumers --Jgpacker (talk) 18:31, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
- It's a tag solely used for the purposes of one particular validator and was added without any existing usage, documentation, tag voting, or data consumer usage. If you can think of a better way to express the fact that it shouldn't be used, I'd welcome it, but we need something Pnorman (talk) 04:22, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
- It's not unusual for tags to be documented without voting, and there are some wiki pages that explicitly recommend it. Though I would certainly agree with not linking this kind of tag on other pages, having this simply as a documentation "when you stumble on it".
- I agree the documentation is lacking right now, but you are mistaken about the existing usage. There are currently 6714 relations with this tag. As far as I know, JOSM itself have this tag in the preset for creation of public transport routes, and probably has for around 6 months now.
- I added some phrases to the page to indicate it's only used by JOSM.

- It seems that there are now more consumers using this tag, so the warning about only being used in JOSM should be removed. Skippern (talk) 10:24, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
