What is this tag's purpose?

It makes no sense as there's no clear definition. Is the ref a number? Why is there a list of, seemingly unrelated, entity objects?

Look at the page Railway station types in Germany. The code is made up of letters not numbers. But that can be different in other countries.--geozeisig (talk) 14:40, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
