Move to ref namespace
It's a great thing to have this ref on OSM to link with outside datasets.
Nevertheless, a ref=* key already exists and it defines a wide namespace to store particular references too.
Before this key become more widely used, should we talk about its replacement by things like ref:UK:repd=*?
This is important as to have all useful references on the same place and take benefit from that common key. Fanfouer (talk) 16:11, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
- I'm certainly not against moving to ref:repd=* as it is an official government reference. Other references do exist. The coverage is now around 80% and it would need an automated update but that wouldn't be too troublesome in this case as it is quite niche usage. The :UK: sub namespace is new to me. I can see that it stops it being reserved worldwide, but there seem to be many ref usages not using that format yet....convince me :) Jnicho02 (talk) 13:29, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks. As redp is a local repository for power generation facilities references, using UK sub-namespace is better as to not get in conflict with another repd elsewhere you won't be aware of.
- I use to do so in France with ref:FR:*=* for years now (you'll see that not all are yet moved to ref:FR nevertheless), and I've stop worring about references conflicts with another place.
- This is not easy to implement on existing references keys, but it could be a good practice for new ones Fanfouer (talk) 14:50, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
