Improvements

I think it was helpful to provide audio signals to understand their meaning.

I have seen traffic lights with different sound signals, but I do not understand what instructions are given by these or those sounds.

Remote-operated signal sound

Since 2007, all new or renovated pedestrian crossings in France follow the NF S32-002 standard to provide sound signals (see page 24 on this document for the exact regulations). This standard allows the sound to be emitted permanently, semi-permanently, manually (by pushing a button) or remotely using a special remote such as this one. In reality, almost every sound system are activated by those remotes, and Paris is the only city I know of in France where both remotes and buttons are available. Sound is almost never emitted automatically because the signals tend to be very loud and cause inconvenience to the residents. The remotes can usually be acquired for free by asking the city council and showing a disability card.

Should traffic_signals:sound=yes still be used in the case when sound is only available with a remote? Or maybe more detailed tags such as traffic_signals:sound:remote_operated=yes and traffic_signals:sound:button_operated=yes? --Lucidiot (talk) 14:24, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Here in Spain is also possible use the Bluetooth of the phone to activate it. Maybe traffic_signals:sound:remote_operated=* bluetooth / remote_control / button or whatever it activates can be a possibility for tagging. --Offsel (talk) 09:38, 12 January 2023 (UTC)

I have recently noticed that some very recently installed traffic signals in my area have call buttons for pedestrians (the already existing button_operated=yes), but using the remotes both triggers the sound and also acts as if the button was pressed: the "call registered" display blinks in red and the signal turns red a few seconds later. Maybe we also need a remote_operated=yes or a remote_operated=remote_control to mean that the remote does not trigger just the sound. --Lucidiot (talk) 18:05, 24 September 2023 (UTC)

Explicit value for both locate and walk

Currently, the article states that traffic_signals:sound=locate excludes traffic_signals:sound=walk and vice-versa. Is it possible to explicitly tag that a traffic signal has two different sounds: one for when red is signalled to locate the traffic signal and one to indicate that currently green is signalled? --Nw520 (talk) 22:06, 16 September 2021 (UTC)
