What is the 0 degree position?

I appears that the values of this tag are 0 to 360 degrees. But which way is 0 degrees? North? East? --Jeisenbe (talk) 04:53, 19 August 2019 (UTC)

I would assume it to be an angle measured clockwise with reference to North as is in common use for compass directions. However, both reference and unit (degree, radian (SI) or gradian) is missing from the documentation. Another question is if it is actually consumed by anyone. In default OSM Carto vine rows are not rendered according to this tag (example).

It could be useful to consider the face to whom rows are oriented as in roof:direction=*. In the Northern Hemisphere rows are, when viable, southwards (180) faced. --Davileci (talk) 23:16, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
I would guess 0 degree means you can walk North-South through the vineyard. With 90 degrees you can walk East-West. This would result in a maximum of values between 0 and 180 (because 190 is equal to 10). But a quick look at taginfo shows values higher than 180 as well. --Nielkrokodil (talk) 18:18, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
