Talk:Mechanical Edits/Mateusz Konieczny - bot account/fix many obvious typos
Inadequate documentation, links broken
Please ensure that consumers of a particular tag that you plan to change are notified. This can be automated - you have a list of tag / value combinations that you plan to change, and taginfo has details of projects that consume tags, with contact information for each.
Changeset descriptions of the form "fixing unusual departures_board values with a clear replacement" are not good enough. IF you know what values you are changing, why not write that in the changeset comment? I'm sure that this can be automated - it just requires you to sit back and think about who you're writing things like this _for_.
The part of the page that says "Please write at https://community.openstreetmap.org/ in thread where discussion has taken place" doesn't make any sense. That isn't a link to a thread, you don't seem to have created a thread for most of these, though there are country-specific ones for some (but not all).
To be clear, it _does_ make sense to consolidate value usage where it has gone off the rails (like with "departures_board"), but it's really not rocket science to explain what you're doing as you do it (like this).

- "you don't seem to have created a thread for most of these" thread for this bot edit is at https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/proposed-bot-edit-fixing-bunch-of-typos-in-tags/110039/ and is linked in this documentation page and in each changeset. I will add an internal link Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 15:19, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
- "To be clear, it _does_ make sense to consolidate value usage where it has gone off the rails" and I will be happy to improve the process, I made first changes already and will continue working on them. Please report any problems that you see. Changeset comments are best, sorry for a bit delayed response there Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 15:19, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
