Log file problem
Seems like my NaviGPS can never create new log files, after it has created the first one. So on a multi-day trip I can fill up my internal memory with full starting/stopping control, then after that I can only do one long recording session logging to a memory card. Once I've switched it off I can't add anything more. It says "file create failed". -- Harry Wood 16:35, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, very annoying problem. Also when the GPS is starting and the SD-card is already inserted then it will display that error because the time isn't synchronized yet. And it won't automatically create a new file when the time finally becomes synchronized. So I usually leave the SD-card out until the GPS has a fix but then you need to insert the SD-card firmly because if you fail to lock it at first try and the SD-card pops out again then it's back to "file create failed" on the following attempts to insert the card. So you've lost another day of tracking (or you must format the card, but then you loose the logs from previous days), aargh!! --Lambertus 10:01, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
Using GPSBabel to offload traces
You can use GPSBabel to get a trace off a navilink with a command like this:
gpsbabel -t -i navilink -f /dev/ttyUSB0 -o gpx -F mytrace.gpx
I've always used the windows navilink software up until now. Right now I happen to be on a machine which has gpsbable installed but not the navilink software, so this command is quite handy, but not sure if it's worth cluttering the page with. I'll stick it on here for my own records. BTW do we have User:TomH to thank for developing this?
