NY Route 5 Routing in Buffalo
So what is the proper routing of NY 5 through downtown Buffalo? The route shown in some of the online maps is distinctly different from the route described in the wikipedia page. I will probably suspend working on the NY 5 relation until I understand the route. nfgusedautoparts 2009-11-24 20:31 UTC
- I've reviewed what's tagged in OSM to this point. It mostly agrees with wikipedia rather than those other online mapping services, and I'm going to put it in the relation as it is tagged in OSM, e.g. westbound NY 5 uses Pearl Street to cross downtown. However, wikipedia shows eastbound 5 going north on Ellicott St, which is interrupted by a Library building. from looking at some aerial imagery, Ellicott appears to go under the library, but someone really should check on the ground. I'm not adding this to the relation until I get some clarification from someone surveying on the ground. nfgusedautoparts 2009-11-24 23:28 UTC
- I've zeroed in on the two questions that need answering: 1) Is Ellicott St NY 5 eastbound, and does it pass under the library? Does NY 5 westbound pass through downtown Buffalo as Pearl Street or as Elmwood Street? nfgusedautoparts 2009-11-25 1:12 UTC
I've fixed the Buffalo routings. Sources used were: (1) NYSDOT quadrangles[1][2], (2) NYSDOT traffic data (including 9xx reference routes), (3) Google street view to verify the existence of signs and the tunnel under the buidling, and (4) New York State Highway Termini for a few signs. --NE2 11:03, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
County route networks
given that counties overlap in their route numbering, do we care about duplication of ref values within the network being used?
- For now, I'm putting addr:county tags on the relations to clarify which county they are in. nfgusedautoparts 2009-11-30 00:43 UTC
- a recommendation was made in talk-us, which i agree with, that the network should be US:NY:<countyname>, e.g. US:NY:Rensselaer. i am going to change the wiki to reflect this and start changing relations over unless i hear a well founded objection. Nfgusedautoparts 11:20, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Bike Route 9
I did a bit of Bike Route 9 (365817 365817) but I can't figure out how it gets between St. Nicholas and Fort Washington. The relevant signs may all be missing. I also don't know how far into Central Park it goes. --NE2 20:01, 18 December 2009 (UTC)
breaking up the tables
i just split off 400-499 from 500-999, i recommend no further splits in 500-999, as there simply aren't that many numbers that high, unless it is thought the reference routes in the 900s need special treatment because of their weird status. nfgusedautoparts 2010-01-18 23:08 UTC
