Talk:Place name party
"Party"?
I would be signing up for this "Party" except currently I'm having issues with editing software.
Anyway for the moment I'm contenting myself with my usual pedantic wiki editing :-) For example I added the "Party?" section to this page, to prompt people to choose a date ...otherwise it might as well be called a "project". ...don't you think?
I quite like the idea of a virtual party, or concerted coordinated mapping push at a particular time. There's other types of mapping that could be done this way, based on Yahoo! Aerial Imagery -- Harry Wood 15:23, 23 May 2007 (BST)
- Ah OK Dean's added a date. Right now! and lasting 2 weeks! -- Harry Wood 16:55, 23 May 2007 (BST)
Dividing up the UK
It occurrs to me that this diagram for dividing up the UK could be useful for the UK page, to coordinate and measure progress with mapping in general. In fact the approach of dividing large areas by degree squares, might be something we could apply more generally to various other country mapping projects. -- Harry Wood 15:23, 23 May 2007 (BST)
NGA GNS
I found this on the web and thought it might help - http://earth-info.nga.mil/gns/html/cntry_files.html, I got their via - http://gnswww.nga.mil/geonames/GNS/index.jsp, which might also help :) --Shadow 14:11, 26 May 2007 (BST)
- Yes. There's wiki page for Geonames I think that's the same thing, and I think we are using it already, for search features (?). You're suggesting we use it for creating place nodes? Not sure why we haven't done this, or if anyone's investigated the possibility. That Geonames page should have some more detail added -- Harry Wood 15:39, 26 June 2007 (BST)
