Inconsistency in 'seamark:light:height'

The tag seamark:light:height=* are described both as height of lighthouse construction and light height over sea. I am trying to tag Cabo Orange lighthouse, which is located on a hill, light height are 164 meter over sea level, while structure is 50 meter. Maybe value seamark:light:ele=* should be used for light elevation over sea level, and keep seamark:light:height=* for height of structure? --Skippern 13:29, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

• Be careful to distinguish "light" height from "landmark" height... seamark:light:height=* is the "focal height" of the lamp, measured in meters above mean sea level. seamark:landmark:height=* is the height of the structure itself.

For your example, then:

seamark:type=landmark

seamark:landmark:category=tower

seamark:landmark:name=Cabo Orange Light

seamark:landmark:height=50

seamark:light:height=164

  etc.

Cleanup and clarification?

I have done a first pass to try to make the article easier to understand for the first time reader. Please adjust further if I have got something wrong.

There are a number of things I would like to understand better. In the 'types of light' section there is a heading for 'lighthouse', but this is then tagged as a 'landmark'. There are other inconsistencies where the names in the intro to 'Types of light' don't match up to the subsequent subsections. Possibly I got something wrong with my edits, but it seems logical that these terms should tie together better.

seamark:light:category=striplight vs strip_light

I notice that there are some references to seamark:light:category=striplight and some to seamark:light:category=strip_light, the former with 5 uses (sounds a lot?) and the latter with 0 (gee that many?). I don't know what is easier, correct references to striplight or to strip_light? Anyhow what is decided, we should agree on one of them. --Skippern (talk) 22:37, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

Since there is a small quantity of uses, you could contact the user that added these tags if you want to change it, and then document (in the wiki) your agreements. --Jgpacker (talk) 17:25, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

I would as well like to know what is supported in the renderer as I am trying to develop a tagging preset. Changing database entries to fit documentation is useless if the renderer uses the entries in the database, changing documentation to fit entries in the database is useless if the renderer uses the documentation. And for now I am waiting for a sensible reply so that my tagging preset doesn't send people astray. --Skippern (talk) 19:15, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
