open air theatre
Any idea how to tag open air theatres? These are definitly no buildings :-) -- Schusch 23:43, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
- I am having the same problem, I am going for temporarily tag the seatings as amenity=theatre and theatre:type=amfi. Maybe tag the stage as amenity=theatre and theatre:stage=yes. --Skippern 16:30, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
- I have also had problems with this several times. I have searched around and it seems that different people tagged little different. There are many open air stages around the world, and I think we should create a proposal to develop a general standard how these scenes and the stand should be tagged.--Magol 10:01, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
- Might I suggest amenity=theatre with covered=no? Although that doesn’t help when the stage is covered and the seats are not…. I also see a few uses of theatre:type=amphi and theatre:type=amfi. Wtachi (talk) 01:33, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
- Well, taginfo states, that theatre:type=amphi is the most common. http://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/keys/theatre:type Wicking (talk) 09:36, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
Theather genres
It would have been much more useful to have genres like this: theatre:genre:x=yes to allow multi-genre use be described without semicolons as it seems quite likely with this tag. Also useful would be to have the super-classes (e.g. theatre:genre:speech=yes, etc) which is now only present in the headers but no tagging given. Ij (talk) 09:01, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
varieté vs. variety
Shouldn't the value "varieté" be spelled "variété"? --Zethradon (talk) 17:20, 27 December 2014 (UTC)
Langenscheidt translates the German "varieté" into "variety theatre, music hall, AE vaudeville theatre". Oxford defines 'variety' for both BE/AE as "a form of television or theater entertainment consisting of a series of different types of acts, such as singing, dancing, and comedy"
All is exactly what was intended with the original German "varieté" in the Wiki. (Apparently in language, DE:varieté has been borrowed from FR:variétés, losing some fine details when passing the border)
Thus yes we should to change it to theatre:genre=variety.
- OK I changed the german Wiki and some tags in the database--geozeisig (talk) 06:57, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
'variety' is fine, it should just be said a bit clearer it means the 'varieté' diversity of elements within a show, not that 'a variety' of different shows is performed. --Polarbear w (talk) 22:05, 24 January 2019 (UTC)
Boulevard
What is the boulevard genre? I can't find anything about it searching online. --MRPockets (talk) 03:50, 14 August 2016 (UTC)

Entertainment music
How would a theatre:genre=* be described for entertainment music? For example, Rock concert, pop music or hits etc. You could add theatre:type=concert_hall but which genre would you choose?--geozeisig (talk) 07:43, 28 January 2019 (UTC)
- I'd see the genre tag as having an open list of values. "popular_music" could be a wide-range value if the venue is not dedicated to a particular stream, but if the latter is the case, I'd see "jazz" or "rock_music" possible as well. --Polarbear w (talk) 15:25, 28 January 2019 (UTC)
