Please clarify these two sentences

  • Don't use an area:highway=pedestrian tag for usual footway areas. Use area:highway=footway for them.
  • Don't left an area:highway=pedestrian area without linear highway=pedestrian way going through its middle.

Without further information, it's very hard to understand what is exactly meant. For example, what is "usual footway areas". What do you mean with "Don't left an..." `S8evq (talk) 07:16, 26 June 2019 (UTC)

Where does the name go?

In case of big places and squares, it looks better to put the name on the area instead of the single pedestrian streets inside the area (might be a case of "mapping for the renderer"), but then the pedestrian streets inside would need noname=yes, and routing software cannot get information about the name. What is the preferred solution here? --Rohieb (talk) 02:28, 25 December 2022 (UTC)

In case of proper pedestrian squares name can go on area=yes + highway=pedestrian and area:highway=pedestrian is not needed. Or name goes on place=square Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 17:01, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
