Conflict with power=converter
This conflicts with reviewed power=converter and probably with power=transformer.
Furthermore, power=generator is defined as a device which converts power from one form to another. Converting frequency doesn't change the nature of the power (electricity -> electricity)
Then I suggest to don't use power=generator in place of power=converter. Fanfouer (talk) 21:31, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
- Did I understand correctly that you would prefer to use power=converter for a frequency converter. Can you then expand the wiki-page power=converter accordingly?
- I was actually looking for a battery storage (Batteriespeicher). Is there a suggestion how to tag it?--geozeisig (talk) 10:05, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, I prefer to use power=converter for frequency converter as suggest the back-to-back value. I would surely make the wiki page clearer regarding that later in the weekend.
- Battery storage is an interesting topic that I don't remerber to had dealt with on OSM. This would require an extension of generator:source=* and generator:method=*. Question is to know if we have to describe batteries as proper generators, since it stores and don't generate properly. How do you feel regarding this? Fanfouer (talk) 18:41, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
Battery storage
A battery storage is actually not a generator and no power plant but a energy storage. (Near where I live there is a house with CellCube. I will map it if I know more about the tagging.) There are other ways to save energy, see Energy_storage. Maybe we have to think about it when we do something new. So far, there are already:
- Pumped-storage hydroelectricity
- Tag:man_made=hot_water_tank / Tag:man_made=storage_tank + content=hot_water (it is not clear which tag of both is better?)
The topic was briefly discussed in the German forum: Mapping Batteriespeicher Stromnetz. There you will find an example Roosecote BatteryRoosecote Battery with battery icon or Batteriespeicher Batteriespeicher on OpenInfraMap

- A battery storage could barely be considered as a generator as it converts chemical energy to electricity (most of the time).
- Nevertheless, it would be interesting to define power=storage or power=store.
- A water pumping plant won't be defined as a power storage as most of the time upside lake gets input from streams or river (and not from the power house).
- We'll have to take care of flywheels also Fanfouer (talk) 14:50, 23 June 2019 (UTC)
- I would prefer power=storage. We would have to specify the type more precisely, e.g. with storage=*. This is already in use see storage together with man_made=storage.
- Maybe power=energy_storage would be even better to distinguish it from material storage. Then we could use energy_storage=* for the type.--geozeisig (talk) 08:36, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
Hot water boilers for district heating
This should be valid as there are electric backup generators to heat the water. Gazer75 (talk) 21:09, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
