How broad a term is this?

Also used for storm drains not big enough for adults to enter? See [storm drain]

Like in man_made=manhole manhole=no? I would go with man_made=drain_inlet or something like that.—Dieterdreist (talk) 23:06, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
Yes, of course it's used for storm drains. That's understood since the first documentation of manhole=drain in 2009, see [[1]] --Vincentius (talk) 19:48, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
I do not see an issue with the cited documentation of manhole=drain in 2009, as in [[2]], this page says you can specify the kind of manhole, e.g. manholes leading to the draining system, it does not say anywhere that the tag should be used on objects that aren't manholes. Indeed with the tag "manhole" in the value of the main tag and in the key of the subtag it seems at least a little negligent to use this on storm drains which aren't manholes. --Dieterdreist (talk) 21:47, 17 April 2023 (UTC)

Pictures that do not fit the definition

According to the definition, this is a refinement of man_made=manhole, so it must be big enough for a human to enter. I propose to remove the pictures of storm water inlets that aren't manholes, from this page. What do you think? --Dieterdreist (talk) 11:40, 16 April 2023 (UTC)

I don't agree. It's understood since the first documentation in 2009 that manhole=drain is to be used for storm drains. See [[3]] and later versions. --Vincentius (talk) 19:48, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
See above for an explanation why this version of 2009 is confirming the view, that these are tags for manholes. --Dieterdreist (talk) 21:49, 17 April 2023 (UTC)

The two examples Altena-Schachtdeckel1-Asio.JPG and Düsseldorf Benrath - Schlosspark 06 ies.jpg are mismatches regarding to inlets, IMHO. The purpose of the small wholes is the exchange of air (kind of ventilation). So I wouldn't tag them with inlet=grate. --Chris2map (talk) 07:09, 2 July 2023 (UTC)
