Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe

Cosmic Ray's is a counter service restaurant at the Magic Kingdom, it is unique in that there is a separate room within the dining area that contains an Audio Animatronic lounge singer. This raises a question in my mind as to how it should be tagged. The entire restaurant is currently tagged as such, but the question is, should it be left as such or should an attraction=show be added to it? What are the opinions of other mappers on the subject? --Stevedorries

I don't think this should be tagged as anything other than amenity=restaurant. Lots of restaurants feature some form of entertainment, but tags really depend on the purpose, I would think. A comedy club that happens to serve food should be tagged as a comedy club, whereas a restaurant with comedic waiters should be tagged as a restaurant. --Gulopine

FDOT Aerial Imagery

I have recieved a response from FDOT, Florida Department of Transportation, they have taken my resquested images and placed them on a public FTP server located at [[1]] the images are available for download for three(3) days from the 27th of October 2009. I then checked with the FDOT employee that provided the information with me if the images are in the public domain and he responded that they are. I can provide a copy of the email conversation if it is needed. -- Stevedorries

Never mind, I finally found the appropriate documentation and figured out to use http://matt.dev.openstreetmap.org/disney/!/!/!.png. I'll update the wiki article to reflect this.

Some of the features in the FDOT images (mostly buildings) don't quite line up with existing ways, which leaves some confusion as to where to put them. In Tomorrowland in particular, the buildigns are off by quite a bit. However, most ground-level features--such as roads, footways and waterways--seem to line up just fine. Looking at the Yahoo images, it seems our features line up with the 2003 images (zoom 19 only), while the 2006 images (zoom 18 and broader) have offsets that look nearly identical to the FDOT "problem". Given that, it looks like the 2003 Yahoo images are in the minority, and are more likely to be inaccurate. The only way we can know for sure is to get a lot of GPS data for the area and compare it to our ways, but in the meantime, I'd recommend not relying on the Yahoo zoom 19 images, but rather on the FDOT images. I'll update the wiki to reflect that. --Gulopine

It should be better to try to move any existing nodes and ways to match the FDOT images, so we can keep their revision history. In some of the more complicated building clusters where a lot of buildings share several nodes with other buildings, it can be very tedious though, so delete and recreate them if you must. But please try to make that a last resort. --Gulopine

Actually, trying to move complex buildings in Potlatch is much trickier than I thought it would be. I'd recommend trying JOSM for that, since it seems to be able to select and move nodes from multiple ways simultaneously. I haven't had a chance to try it out in JOSM yet, but it looks promising. JOSM seems to expect a different format for the URL for the FDOT images, and their documentation suggests that http://matt.dev.openstreetmap.org/disney/0/0/0.png should work, but again, I haven't been able to try it out yet. --Gulopine 13:50, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Site-wide tagging

Previously, the cities of Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista, which comprised most of the resort complex, were tagged as tourism=attraction. I don't believe they should be marked as such, since most of that is comprised of woodlands and hotels. I've removed that tag from the municipal boundaries and added a tourism=theme_park way around each of the four parks, which currently doesn't get displayed by any of the renderers. Once they do, I believe this tag will suffice on its own. The boundaries for the individual parks is up for debate, of course; the lines I drew were fairly arbitrary, so I'm open to other opinions. --Gulopine

If we can find a legal reference for the Reedy Creek Improvement District, we'll add that as well, tagging it with admin_level=7 since it sits between a county (level 6) and a city (level 8). That boundary should not be tagged as any form of tourism; it's only a guide to show the boundaries of the resort property. --Gulopine

I found a public domain image of the RCID, compiled from public documents. Unfortunately, the RCID has become quite fracture since the removal of the town of Celebration, and the addition of other parcels of land that are not contiguous. All in all, I think it would be a bit messy to represent, and likely of little overall interest. --Silvermane

Wikipedia

I mentioned the WDW effort on the main Wikiproject for Walt Disney World. I was thinking that it may be helpful to put wikipedia tags onto the attractions that have articles for them. --SteveDorries

Highway tag values

Currently, most highways within WDW property are tagged either as highway=unclassified or highway=residential, neither of which apply to the main corridors. By OSM definition, World Drive and Epcot Center Drive would qualify as motorways, with the supporting network made up of trunks, and then on down to resort roads being primary or secondary. Thoughts? --Silvermane

Lodging

I see that some of the individual buildings have had names applied to them but not all of them. Should each of the buildings be named or just the main lobby building? --SteveDorries
