Places to share/swap/give away things

I thought I'd seen a tag for this, but I can't find it now, and it's not mentioned on this page. So there are some boxes in my city that are a lot like public bookcases, but they are meant for exchaning anything, not just books. Do we have a tag for this, or am I dreaming? If we don't I feel like that is needed. Thank you! --Forteller (talk) 19:28, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

amenity=public_bookcase (also see Mapcomplete/bookcases) and amenity=give_box --Pietervdvn (talk) 10:24, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

Photos

Mapillary is supposed to be used for photos of outside. How to add an interior photo ?

MapContrib Pictures theme is using this tags : mapillary, flickr, wikimedia_commons, image

Extract of Key:wikimedia_commons explaining why It's important to have both wikidata and wikimedia : "Adding wikimedia_commons=* to an object that has wikidata=* can be considered redundant because Wikidata itself often links to Wikimedia Commons. The vast majority of less experienced (newbies and occasional) users however is way more likely to understand the concept and importance of Wikimedia Commons than Wikidata though and that's why it can be considered good to add both. Even for experienced users, the human-readable value of wikimedia_commons=* is easier to interpret."

Umap and MapContrib

In Umap or MapContrib, in the template popup, it's not possible to have a conditional part depending if the tag is présent or not (usefull for img in html)

Please, document and discuss umap/mapcontrib topics on their respective wiki pages --Pietervdvn (talk) 10:21, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

Status for ESS

in french : cuma, associations, coopératives, mutuelles, fondations, entreprises sociales à statut commercial https://www.avise.org/decouvrir/economie-sociale-et-solidaire/ess-de-quoi-parle-t-on

new tag ? : "status.ess=yes' or "brand:FR=Economie Sociale et Solidaire"

NO. Don't do this, this is both too vague for OSM and can be derived from the operator. --Pietervdvn (talk) 10:21, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

Use of produce

For farm, strawberry is a product or à produce ? Chris-ren (talk) 04:14, 27 April 2019 (UTC)

See shop=farm https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Repair_cafe--Pietervdvn (talk) 10:21, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

service_time or opening_hours ?

When a new tag is added (for repair café...) should we use services_times or opening_hours ? opening_hours is usually edited with help on it Chris-ren (talk) 04:16, 27 April 2019 (UTC)

opening_hours=* is widely supported by many applications, use this one. service_times=* is mostly used on churches and religious items to indicate when mass is starting --Pietervdvn (talk) 10:21, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

Note tag

Tag "note" with value "Voir https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/WikiProject_CircularEconomy pour conseils de cartographie." Usefull if we want to "harmonize" data (it's a kind of less, for example with containers). I know de car use a changeset hashtag, but is it know from casual contributors ? Helping edit opening_hours

See the dedicated wiki page for this [1]. Please, refrain from copying everything to this page, but link instead. This avoids duplication of data, which is a mess to clean up --Pietervdvn (talk) 10:21, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

Do we have to precise who has taken the photo if it's a mappilary image ?

source_ref Chris-ren (talk) 05:06, 13 June 2019 (UTC)

NO. Mapillary keeps track of the author and rights, it can be loaded from there. --Pietervdvn (talk)

Precise when the info is taken from a website ?

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:source_ref can be used for this. Chris-ren (talk) 03:06, 17 June 2019 (UTC)

NO. This should go into the changeset comment under 'source', not onto the object itself. Another contributor might make changes later based on different sources. --Pietervdvn (talk) 10:21, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

recycling=information

How to add info about recycling ?

See amenity=recycling --Pietervdvn (talk) 10:21, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

Use of amenity=workshop tag

Hello. Is the use amenity=workshop actually mandatory for Repair Cafés? I ask because workshop is kind of an ambiguous term, that could mean anything, and doesn't really impart anything to map consumers. This is the only instance where the tag is used also. So, I'd like to tag them with something more specific and widely accepted. and like craft=electric_repair, leisure=hackerspace, or social_facility=outreach. It seems like places in this category are usually tagged as leisure=hackerspace, but either of the three options would be better then amenity=workshop. I thought id ask before re-tagging them though because I don't want to screw anything up in the process. --Adamant1 (talk) 23:19, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

leisure=hackerspace is definitively wrong. I'm currently trying to clean up this mess, see Repair_cafe where I'm bundling all information. --Pietervdvn (talk) 10:21, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

Unofficial revert

Hi chris-ren, you reverted (seemingly by-copy-pasting) this page to this version on 25 september. I understand that you were disappointed by my massive changes earlier, but the current version (which you reinstantiated) is borderline unusable as well for external people. In your comment, you state "Back to the previous (and better) description about repair café", but your change contains much more then just the repair café item. Furthermore, it would be more useful to document this on the dedicated page. How can we proceed to make sure that the wiki page is both structured and serves your usecase? --Pietervdvn (talk) 18:49, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
