OpenStreetMap feature issues/peeves - missing/hard/impossible-to-find
- well-intentioned though it may seem to attach milemarkers to the associated way, it totally destroys the integrity of the marker's physical location (feet or yards from centerline); there must be a better way - keep actual physical marker location, virtually connect it to way
- urban path signs; "guidepost" seems wrong
- watershed measurement devices
- bollard lights - bollard vs streetlight: may - or may not - be used as plaza/walkway/trail barrier; not stories-tall lightposts
- drinking water fountain - should be able to make fountain part of building, as they are often mounted on public park restroom building exterior walls
Mapillary rocks… and sucks spectacularly, giant waste of time, OSM data-gathering efforts!
I discovered OpenStreetMap at OSM State Of the Map at CU Boulder, Colorado in October 2018. I started using Mapillary the following summer. While ex-Apple iPhoto Jan Eric Solem's Mapillary is powerful software, the mobile apps suck donkey balls; they don't grok native UI elements, like iOS multi-selection, and there are glaring differences between iOS and Android implementations. Mapillary has wasted not just hours, but days, if not man-weeks of my data-gathering efforts, holding tens of thousands of images, gigabytes of my data, on multiple devices hostage, perhaps junked forever (:--( - with API changes, upload changes, sequence locking[1], other bullshit obstacles. (:-(
A serious, professional software engineering team / project would have umpteen iOS and Android devices, multiple hardware generations, multiple OS versions, filled with data, running low on memory and otherwise stressed. Mapillary (Facebook / Meta / scumbag decabillionaire Mark Zuckerberg) software mobile app engineering, management is spectacularly fucked-up! Sadly, I believe Mapillary software engineering management/staff is some combination of arrogant, unprofessional, naive, clueless, incompetent. Fuck bad software, fuck bad-software engineering, managers, directors, companies, corporate boards; fuck the oligarchs!
