Where did the dikes go? is an import of data resulting from the BNWYF mapathon in November 2020 which holds roads, embankments and waterways covering 30 polders in the south of Bangladesh. The import is currently (as of 31-10-2020) at the planning stage, therefore this import plan is not finalized yet.
Goals
We want to make the results of this mapathon available to everyone; we want to upload all the digitized roads, embankments and waterways to OSM.
Schedule
- 31 October 2020: start getting in touch with the OSM community in Bangladesh, discuss our wish to upload the results of the mapathon.
- 12 November 2020: start of mapathon "Where did the dikes go?".
- 18 November 2020: mapathon completed, review of the data by our own GIS experts.
- After 18 November 2020: let data be reviewed by OSM experts and if the local OSM community agrees, upload the data to OSM.
Import Data
Background
Provide links to your sources.
Data source site: Data license: Type of license (if applicable): e.g. CC-BY-SA, Public Domain, Public Domain with Attribution, etc. Link to permission (if required): e.g. link to mail list reference url OSM attribution (if required): ODbL Compliance verified: yes/no
OSM Data Files
Link to your source data files that you have prepared for the import - e.g. the .osm files you have derived from the data sources.
Import Type
Identify if this is a one-time or recurring import and whether you'll be doing it with automated scripts, etc.
Identify what method will be used for entering the imported data into the OSM database - e.g. API, JOSM, upload.py, etc.
Data Preparation
Data Reduction & Simplification
Describe your plans, if any, to reduce the amount of data you'll need to import.
Examples of this include removing information that is already contained in OSM or simplifying shapefiles.
Tagging Plans
Describe your plan for mapping source attributes to OSM tags.
Changeset Tags
Describe how you'll use changeset tags in the import.
Data Transformation
Describe the transformations you'll need to conduct, the tools you're using, and any specific configurations or code that will be used in the transformation.
Data Transformation Results
Post a link to your OSM XML files.
Data Merge Workflow
Team Approach
We will be doing this in a team effort with members of the Bangladesh-Netherlands Water Youth Forum.
References
List all factors that will be evaluated in the import.
Workflow
Because the participants of the mapathon will create the maps themselves, we provide them with detailed information on when to use what tags and how to map in general.
Steps that we will take:
- After everything is mapped, review all data on consistency (of tags) and quality of the digitizing.
- Look into how to convert these shapefiles to OSM readable files (*.osm)
- Get/stay in touch with the OSM Bangladesh community on our plans
- Share the data for review
- Upload the data
