My name is Joseph R P. I am a teen mapper in Virginia who also spent 8 years in Nevada. I joined OpenStreetMap on March 26, 2020. See how I've contributed to OSM here.
A little bit about me
I was born in Fairfax, Virginia and lived throughout NoVA for a while, lived in Las Vegas, Nevada for about 8 years or so, and moved back to Virginia in 2015. I currently reside in Woodbridge.
I've always had an interest in cars and geography, and the perfect middle-ground topic: roads. Growing up, I liked to draw fictional city and highway maps. I also frequently explored Google Earth ever since my father installed it onto the computer for me to use. That was put to good use as I can now name almost every arterial road in Las Vegas as well as almost every community/city or highway in Nevada. Nowadays, in my late teens, I usually check in on what's happening in Nevada via news and like to see recent road projects and explore the area when new map imagery is available on the OSM iD editor.
I discovered OSM on Wikipedia, as the Kartograph maps used on the sites credited the OSM data. After learning about the idea of a map you could edit just like Wikipedia I instantly created an account, figured out what you had to do, and proceeded to create the largest changeset by area ever (exaggeration), spanning from Las Vegas to Woodbridge and modifying a total of 3 objects.
Currently, I like to work on highways, map random hamlets and commercial areas, or take a walk around my neighborhood then map things I saw at home listening to rock music and with a cat on my lap. Aside from mapping in Virginia and Nevada, I also like to contribute in places I've been to many times, like DC, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Florida, Utah, California, and New Mexico.
