Universities

Hi Chris, you started an list at universities. Can you plz. explain how this will differ from research and what the existing list lacks? :-)

My intent was to create a page where Universities using OSM can be tracked, and the use of OSM by Universities can be discussed in general. When I say use, I am referring to publishing OSM data in some manor. In my mind, this has nothing really to do with the research page, and in my view, research published by Universities should be listed there, and not on the Universities page.

My personal interest in this is that I have been doing stuff at the University of Southampton, and stuff has been happening at other Universities, and there probably need for more coordination.

No, neither. For examples of the "use" I discuss above, please see the external links on the Universities page. I do not believe the way OSM is used on any of the pages linked to has an educational or research purpose. I have also attempted to further clarify my view of the pages purpose on the page itself.

AFAIK we introduced this kind of mapping activities also at Research. I'm ok if you like to add it here, but we had very bad experience by people who tried to fork and maintain lists esp. of the Research projects :-/ So please check if you are able to bootstrap and maintain the list for at least one year or so. --!i! 05:54, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
