Let's simplify spelling
Hi, I just noted your edit on "Rendering" with the comment "Fixed .. the random use of British English". AFAIK british spelling is supposed to be the standard spelling used on OSM, so please don't be surprised to find "drive-by" edits by random bots changing the spelling back again. --Lyx 18:14, 23 September 2010 (BST)
- Uh. I won't mind the bots, but can we just stick with the simpler spelling, which is American? -- Dandv 18:22, 23 September 2010 (BST)
- I don't know, it's a foreign language for me. But I guess most of the english speaking users are used to british spelling, either because they are from Britain (or another country using that spelling) or because it's what they learned in school (e.g. most german users). For the wiki pages it is just a matter of taste, but for the tags in the database there is really not much of a choice, at least if you want your tags to be rendered or otherwise used by software. --Lyx 21:11, 23 September 2010 (BST)
- I think I've seen that: In Potlatch, tagging a point as amenity=theatre shows an icon for it, but tagging it as amenity=theater doesn't. -- Dandv 21:38, 23 September 2010 (BST)
- British English has been the lingua franca of OSM since its foundation. If you want to change that then the correct way to do so is to start a discussion about it, not to change random spellings on the wiki. "Simpler spelling" is in the eye of the beholder and I'd disagree that American English is any simpler. "Tap" is certainly simpler than "faucet". ;) --Richard 10:35, 24 September 2010 (BST)
- "Tap" is not a different spelling of "faucet"; it's a synonym. I'm advocating simplified English in general in order to make OSM more accessible to more people globally. OSM by its nature has mostly international users and I've seen terrible English in some OSM-based applications. And "simpler spelling" is not in the eye of the beholder - take a look at http://www.spellingsociety.org/. -- Dandv 20:35, 24 September 2010 (BST)

You don't have to pay for MapDroyd maps
Hi, I just undid your edit to MapDroyd, because currently MapDroyd has no requirement to pay for any maps. Please provide a reference to the contrary, should you want to re-assert your claim. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dandv (talk • contribs)
The map for Berlin is free, but the rest of the maps costs money. At least that's what the app for Android says.Sorry, I was thinking about TravelDroyd. // Liftarn
