Mapping weekend slice management tool
User:Kachkaev was telling me about this mapping weekend slice management tool which you've created. This looks really neat. Is it something we could use for a London mapping party? -- Harry Wood 12:08, 3 April 2011 (BST)
- Now we (me and osmisto) are developing a new version of the tool. It will be finished within two weeks. If you need earlier, you can download the current version from here: https://github.com/Foxhind/MapCraft. And there is the sql-dump: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12923490/OSM/pie.sql. --Hind 13:59, 3 April 2011 (BST)
- I Blogged about MapCraft here. There's a screenshot on the wiki here File:MapCraft Pimlico screenshot.png. I think I will write a little "MapCraft" wiki page too (unless you want to do it) -- Harry Wood 02:25, 9 May 2011 (BST)
MapCraft has gone offline now. And just when were going to go for a fully MapCraft-based London meet-up too :-( Any idea what's going on there? -- Harry Wood 12:31, 2 June 2011 (BST)
- This was a problem with hosting. This has been fixed yet on May 31. About the problem on June 2 I know nothing. --Hind 08:14, 3 June 2011 (BST)
hmmm. Now I'm seeing a problem that the AJAX is broken. I try to select a cake slice, and nothing loads. -- Harry Wood 17:44, 9 June 2011 (BST)
- Ohh, I fixed it. But I plan to go to new hosting provider. :( --Hind 10:03, 11 June 2011 (BST)
Got a broken login issue stopping me using it today. Sorry. Seems like I only come here to complain to you :-) -- Harry Wood (talk) 12:04, 19 August 2014 (UTC)
Hey, thanks for sorting out Mapcraft logins. Would you mind also taking a look at the wms output. This layer doesn't seem to be working if I try load it into JOSM --DaCor (talk) 17:22, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
Countrywide street name fix assisted by MapCraft
Hello Hind! Your tool is really nice and intuitive. We're wondering if and how we can use it here in Brazil to help review street names as we read from a record with street names divided by census sector. The whole process would involve thousands of objects in the entire country. Do you think this could overload your server? We might as well begin with a small set only around major cities. One thing that would be really really useful is the ability to import the polygons with an initial comment (perhaps registered on a "note" tag on each polygon) containing the street names to be reviewed (or, more generally, any comment someone desires). Is it possible, perhaps modifying the source code a bit to include this feature?--Fernando Trebien (talk) 01:04, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
Cant log into Mapcraft since Openstreetmap.org went to https
Hi Hind,
Your Mapcraft site is very very useful for community mapping projects. Is it possible for you to fix it so that people can log into OSM again through it. Nobody has been able to make any changes to any cakes since the end of July.
Missing file information
Hello! And thanks for your upload - but some extra info is necessary.
Sorry for bothering you about this, but it is important to know source of the uploaded files.
Are you the author of image File:Logo by hind 128x128.png ?
Or is it copied from some other place (which one?)?
Please, add this info to the file page - something like "I took this photo" or "downloaded from -website link-" or "I took this screeshot of program XYZ".
Doing this would be already very useful.
Licensing - photos
In case that you are the author of the image: Would you agree to open licensing of this image, allowing its use by anyone (similarly to your OSM edits)?
In case where it is a photo you (except relatively rare cases) author can make it available under a specific free license.
Would you be OK with CC0 (it allows use without attribution or any other requirement)?
Or do you prefer to require attribution and some other things using CC-BY-SA-4.0?
If you are the author: Please add {{CC0-self}} to the file page to publish the image under CC0 license.
You can also use {{CC-BY-SA-4.0-self}} to publish under CC-BY-SA-4.0 license.
Once you add missing data - please remove {{Unknown|subcategory=uploader notified March 2022}} from the file page.
Licensing - other images
If it is not a photo situation gets a bit more complicated.
See Drafts/Media file license chart that may help.
note: if you took screenshot of program made by someone else, screenshot of OSM editor with aerial imagery: then licensing of that elements also matter and you are not a sole author.
note: If you downloaded image made by someone else then you are NOT the author.
Note that in cases where photo is a screenshot of some software interface: usually it is needed to handle also copyright of software itself.
Note that in cases where aerial imagery is present: also licensing of an aerial imagery matter.
Help
Feel free to ask for help if you need it - you can do it for example by asking on Talk:Wiki: new topic.
Please ask there if you are not sure what is the proper next step. Especially when you are uploading files that are not your own work or are derivative work (screenshots, composition of images, using aerial imagery etc).
If you are interested in wider discussion about handling licencing at OSM Wiki, see this thread.

(sorry if I missed something that already states license and source: I am looking through over 20 000 files and fixing obvious cases on my own, in other I ask people who upladed files, but it is possible that I missed something - in such case also please answer)
