Hi Vikas,

I've actually been playing with Mapnik a lot recently, and I think that the OSM-Mapnik way of creating tiles is much easier than TAH - you don't need to set up a Django server, which is very fiddly. Also, the process is better documented and, I think, has a larger community behind it. Once you have Mapnik up and running, then there's a set of OSM-specific files which drive Mapnik to produce the correct tiles. These are good as a base, e.g. for editing the stylesheet XML.

Python's straightforward once you know the basics, it's much preferable to perl!

Milton Keynes Cake Updated

Hi Ollie. I fiddled with your cake last night MK Mapping Party#Area Cake. It's showing the newly mapped areas on there now. I had to do some weird resizing in photoshop though, so the place labels look slightly less clear now.

Oh yeah, and I've booked train tickets for me and my girlfriend. Weather's looking a bit pants, but there's no going back now!

orienteering vegetation colours

I'm trail hiking using an osm based application, osmand+. as continous trails colouring is easier to follow, i choosed the OSMC colouring scheme for configure map/hiking routes. this was ok for most routes colours, but black and green were very unclear in green coloured wood covered areas, especially at night. since i remembered my orienteering map back in the 1989 had white coloured woods, I successfully changed the rendering in osmand+ accordingly. however this is very useful for me at the time, I'd suggest expressing the vegetation density by colour for other features too, to better serve the orienteering community. please take a look at the osm vegetation features and help me make a translation table to the orienteering corresponding passage colour. alexbodn (talk) 11:58, 28 September 2021 (UTC)

Sorry for bothering you about this, but it is important to know source of the uploaded files.

Are you the author of image File:Bow cake.png ?

Or is it copied from some other place (which one?)?

Please, add this info to the file page - something like "I took this photo" or "downloaded from -website link-" or "I took this screeshot of program XYZ".

Doing this would be already very useful.

Licensing - photos

In case that you are the author of the image: Would you agree to open licensing of this image, allowing its use by anyone (similarly to your OSM edits)?

In case where it is a photo you (except relatively rare cases) author can make it available under a specific free license.

Would you be OK with CC0 (it allows use without attribution or any other requirement)?

Or do you prefer to require attribution and some other things using CC-BY-SA-4.0?

If you are the author: Please add {{CC0-self}} to the file page to publish the image under CC0 license.

You can also use {{CC-BY-SA-4.0-self}} to publish under CC-BY-SA-4.0 license.

Once you add missing data - please remove {{Unknown|subcategory=uploader notified March 2022}} from the file page.

note: if you took screenshot of program made by someone else, screenshot of OSM editor with aerial imagery: then licensing of that elements also matter and you are not a sole author.

note: If you downloaded image made by someone else then you are NOT the author.

Note that in cases where photo is a screenshot of some software interface: usually it is needed to handle also copyright of software itself.

Note that in cases where aerial imagery is present: also licensing of an aerial imagery matter.
