building=barrack

I have seen you have added building=barrack with a definition that suggests civilian use, but the word is also often used for military barracks (quarter of the soldiers). There are not so many of these buildings tagged like this at the moment (148) and besides 1 in Switzerland, all others (in Germany, Ireland and Togo) are inside military areas and soldier's barracks (you can see this from the building configuration). Therefore I'd advise on changing the definition and emphasize military usage. --Dieterdreist (talk) 11:41, 30 March 2017 (UTC)

I could use the term "workman's hut" or "construction trailer", but it refers to a different kind of hut on wheels. What I am looking for is a tag that defines the kind of temporary, portable buildings used at construction sites for workes to live in. One suggestion is "portable cabin", just "portable" or "demountable". Some of these buildings stays for years before they are removed.

There is also the case when former military bases are decommissioned and the property are sold to civilians (the barracks are not military: anymore). --Zetex (talk) 19:07, 30 March 2017 (UTC)

I guess you could call them "living containers" as many of them are built this way to be stackable. But the word "barrack" is commonly used here in the north.

Yes, to me these are either office containers (on a construction site, for the architect and executing companies) or living containers (typically close to the site but not on site). A google picture search seems to confirm this view. Generally, you should only document tags in a way in which they are already used, not for new ideas.
