A set of recommended tags aimed at improving the outdoor network in Thailand, with a particular emphasis on hiking, 4WD, mountain biking, and dirt biking activities.

Derived from international best practices and the minor road classification guidelines of Thailand.

Indicates the type of road, street or path.

mtb:scale

Indicates the technical difficulty of a trail or segment with a mountain bike.

  • based on downhill direction and favorable conditions like sufficient daylight and dry ground, independent of perceived danger or driving speed
  • suitable for any double tracks / unpaved roads (0 to 1) or any paths / singletrails (0 to 6)
mtb:scale=* surface obstacles bends max gradient
0 gravel/packed - wide mild
1 packed/loose small roots, stones and ruts wide < 40% (22°)
2 packed/loose large roots, stones and ruts wide hairpins < 70% (35°)
3 loose/talus boulders and large roots. tight hairpins, off-balance turns > 70% (35°)
4 loose/talus drags, debris and high steps bail like hairpins > 70% (35°)
5 loose/rock boulder fields, debris, and landslides bail like hairpins with obstacles > 70% (35°)
6 bare rock 2m+ steps, rock faces indistinguishable > 100% (45°)

sac_scale

Indicates the technical difficulty of a trail or segment on foot.

  • suitable for any double tracks / unpaved roads (hiking) or any paths / singletrails

Indicates the usability of a road by wheeled vehicles.
