Key:post_box:design

post_box:design=* is the design of a postbox, how it looks. This is different from post box:type=* as it regards the design, compared to the shape of the postbox. This tag is at present mostly used in the United Kingdom and Belarus and post-boxes from one country will likely not be used much in other countries. The proposal for this key is currently lost.

Usage

This is a properties tag and should be used in combination with post box:

Values in use in Russia

The main models of post boxes found on the territory of Russia. The tag post_box:design= is strongly recommended to be used in conjunction with the tag design:year= , since there are models with the same official name that have completely different characteristics (for example, ЯПНР-II-С)

soviet		Installed throughout the former USSR since the 1960s, a very popular model. There are different modifications with a coat of arms and a frame, but all of them are distinguished by a characteristic rounded design of the receiving slot.
small_soviet		A model of a Soviet post box for rural areas. Instead of a rounded protruding receiving slot on the larger model, here the receiving slot is recessed into a horizontal recess.
gabled		Differs by having a characteristic "ridge" on top.
ЯПМК-7А		Differs in complete absence of rounding. On the front surface there are small straight decorative embossed lines - 4 vertical and 1 horizontal. With a mechanical recess - there are no doors on the sides, at the bottom there are small "runners". Produced in the 2000s. Reported in the Central Federal District.
ЯПР-1М		Reduced version of the ЯПМК-7А box, for rural areas. With manual letter recess, there is a door with a lock on the right.
ЯПНР-II-С	2006	External wall-mounted post box with manual removal of correspondence for simple mail. Installed everywhere in 2012-2016. Outwardly, it is similar to ЯПНМ-II-С, but has a flat bottom, and on the side of the body there is a door with a lock for removing letters.
ЯПНМ-II-С	2010	External mechanised wall-mounted post box for simple shipments with ESKV (electronic seizure control system) of shipments. It looks like ЯПНР-II-С, but at the bottom there is an ESKV mechanism - black "runners" on the sides, and a depression in the centre. The sides are smooth, there is no door on them.
ЯПНР-СМ	2010	External wall-mounted post box with manual removal of correspondence for the countryside. Identical to ЯПНР-II-С, but much smaller in size.
ЯПВ-Н-П	2006	Indoor wall-mounted post box for simple items. Looks like ЯПНР-II-С, but there is no rain visor on the receiving slot.
ЯПВ-Н-С	2010	ЯПВ-Н-П version for special shipments, yellow.
ЯПНМ-I-С	2015	New box for simple items. Developed by the studio of Artemy Lebedev in 2015. At the bottom there are black "runners" for mechanised removal, there is no door on the sides.
ЯПНР-II-С	2014	A variant of a new sample box with a manual cutout. It differs from ЯПНМ-I-С by the bottom and the presence of a door with a lock on the right wall. On the basis of this box, boxes for special shipments in yellow and red colors have been created.
ЯПНР-II-С-red	2014	New version of the box for intra-city shipments, red. Manual opening from the door on the right wall.
ЯПНР-II-С-yellow	2014	New version of the box for 1st class items, yellow. Manual opening from the door on the right wall.
ЯПВ-Т-П	2010	Indoor pillar post box with manual removal of correspondence for simple items. Since 2012 installed inside post offices
ЯПВ-Т-С	2010	Indoor pillar post box with manual removal of correspondence for special items. Yellow
rounded_pillar		The mailbox is indoor pedestal with a characteristic rounding on top. Spotted in St. Petersburg since the early 2000s
grey_pillar		Indoor pillar post box in corporate grey-blue colors of the Russian Post. Installed in offices after renovation.

type_d	Elliptic cylinder shaped freestanding pillar box with one slot for mail at one end and a stamp vending machine at the other.
type_e	Elliptic cylinder shaped freestanding pillar box with one slot for mail at one end and a stamp vending machine at the other.
type_g	Free standing rectangular metal pillar box manufactured in the 1970s with EIIR royal cypher.
double_type_g	Two interconected rectangular metal pillar boxes that are self-standing and share a cap. These were manufactured in the 1970s and have EIIR royal cypher.
type_k	Rounded cylindrical pillar box made from the 1980s to 2000 with EIIR or scottish_crown royal cypher.
penfold	Distinctive hexagonal cylinder shaped freestanding pillar box with VR royal cypher produced in the 1860s and 70s. Not to be confused with the Reproduction Penfolds  Pillar_box#Penfolds
fluted	A freestanding pillar box, taking the form of a small cylindrical column with fluted sides. Some have small vertical slots some have small horizontal slots. Also known as PB1/viii. They have the VR cypher and "Post Office" along the rim. There are twelve in the UK.  pillar box
indoor_pillar	A freestanding pillar box, taking the form of a column. Usually cylindrical in shape in the UK, but rectangular forms can also be seen. Often made of plastic to make moving easier. Airport_pillar are similar but with some clear panels so you can see the mail inside  pillar box
liverpool_special	Liverpool "special" post box are pillar boxes originating from 1863, when cast by Messrs Cochrane and Company of Dudley. They follow a similar form to the pillar post box, but exhibit a crown on top of them, as well as the words "POST OFFICE" in golden capitals.
hovis	A small lamp box, often attached to post or telegraph pole or even built into a wall. Has a rectangular base and a distinctive curved top said to resemble a loaf of Hovis bread. Usually engraved with text "Letters Only" on the curved top portion.
waggon_top	A small rectangular cast iron lamp box with slightly convex top with royal cypher above the slot and "letters only" below slot. Normally attached to post or pole, occasionally attached to wall.
type_l	Larger lamp box with slightly convex top and bottom
type_m	Narrower version of the type l post box
type_n	Curved plastic lamp box said to resemble Bantam motorcycle fuel tank
ludlow	Wall box built into stone pillars or the walls of buildings and are never found free-standing. This is because they are made largely from wood. Has distinctive large white panel with royal cypher and "Post Office Letter Box" (sometimes with instructions on what not to post).  Ludlow wall box
