Message generation
Personally, I'm not a fan of "canned" messages (no matter whether they are sent automatically or manually). Wikipedia uses those, and to me they are as personal as some popup text displayed by the site after logging in – i.e. not at all. I'm currently writing all welcome messages I send by hand, taking into account their previous edits, and start from scratch each time rather than copy-pasting them. I would personally consider canned messages detrimental, especially if they lead to the new user being "checked off" in the tool discussed here, and thus not receiving genuine welcome communications. --Tordanik 10:18, 4 September 2015 (UTC)
- It may have additional field set "custom message" to user X, Y or Z. Xxzme (talk) 10:22, 4 September 2015 (UTC)
- Sure, but imo there should be no "generate message" feature at all. Not that I can stop anyone from developing that, but I doubt the large-scale sending of standard messages would not be good for the project. Just something to think about. --Tordanik 10:37, 4 September 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, I thought about that but I really don't have the time to manually type them each time, repeating the same basic info all over. I genuinely understand your concern but I believe that it is beneficial for new users to at least have that information, and no-one in my community wants to manually welcome them. —M!dgard [ talk ] 16:30, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
