type -> archery:type

Using the generic key type=* is problematic because it can cause conflicts with other uses of the same key. For example, an archery range may be represented by a multipolygon (type=multipolygon). I therefore suggest to use archery:type=* instead. The small number of existing uses should be updated at the same time as the wiki page. --Tordanik 11:41, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

archery=* is now being used to describe the bow (longbow, crossbow etc), the field, and probably other things I cannot identify without more googleing. This should be separated into the relevant categories, for example archery:bow=longbow;crossbow;* archery:filed=popinjay;* archery:target=* etc Warin61 (talk) 04:17, 17 January 2019 (UTC)

Recreation Ground rather than Pitch

A pitch should be the area enclosed in white lines: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:leisure%3Dpitch In archery this would most accurately be each 'lane'

Majority of archery areas as mapped in OSM enclose the whole site including access roads, pavilions, car parks etc. Recreation Ground more accurately fits this description. --DaveF63 (talk) 16:11, 23 July 2020 (UTC))

A recreation ground may contain several sports. For example cricket, tennis, hockey, basketball and archery all on separate playing areas. As such I don't think it is suitable to tag each individual playing area within the larger area of recreation ground. Warin61 (talk)
I'm unsure if your point is relelvant to mine, which is, instead of 'leisure=pitch + sport=archery.' tags it should be 'leisure=recreation_ground + sport=archery.'
What you raised is unclear, if not implying some misunderstandings. That should be a leisure=sports_centre, which can contain landuse=recreation_ground, additionally with leisure=pitch marked on it . Another tag should likely be used for each lane, as leisure=pitch doesn't show any parts inside; although I won't mind someone mapping each lane as attached leisure=pitch areas. For comparison, there's currently no explicit tag for the framed non-playing buffer zone (leisure=pitch is a mix of the playing field's land and marked border, partly because of varying level of detail), nor an often fenced immediate area grouping several pitches togther (may not be a landuse=recreation_ground) . -- Kovposch (talk) 10:36, 26 July 2020 (UTC)
For the record, landuse=recreation_ground vs leisure=recreation_ground is amusing too. -- Kovposch (talk) 10:40, 26 July 2020 (UTC)

Parcours/Courses/Routes for Field Archery

We need a tagging scheme for Field Archery which should probably be a new route type since they are more similar to hiking/cycling routes than pitches and comprises several waypoints/targets as members. Can someone with some knowledge of the sport suggest/name needed keys please? --Stefanct (talk) 00:57, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

Do you think that the in-use archery=field tag refers to this or merely that the archery course in question is afield? Arlo James Barnes (talk) 05:34, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
