User:Wielandb/Key:ramp

This tag indicates whether or not there is a ramp available. It's normally used on highway=steps. A ramp can, for example, be built next to a stairway in order to allow access to higher ground for people who use a wheelchair or have a bike.

A standalone ramp without steps can be tagged with highway=footway and incline=*.

In combination with ramp:portable=yes this tag indicates that an element (like a public transport platform) has a portable ramp.

Ramps

This is for ramps that are included in the stairway itself. Ramps that run physically separated (e.g. separated by a fence, height difference or wall), should be drawn separately.

Tag	Description
ramp=yes	There is a ramp. You should also specify the type of ramp, see below.
ramp=separate	There is a ramp, but it is mapped as a separate way in OpenStreetMap. The separate way itself can be tagged with highway=footway and incline=*.
ramp=no	No ramp at all. This is the default, but it's useful to add this for completion and to aid routing for people in wheelchairs.

Ramp types

A stairway can theoretically have several ramps of different types. If there are several ramps, this tagging scheme allows each of them to be tagged.

Tag	Description	Picture
ramp:bicycle=yes/automatic	A ramp to the side of steps that enables users to go up or down staircases without having to physically carry a bicycle. Sometimes called a "runnel". Wikipedia:Bicycle_stairway Automatic indicates it moves by itself (conveyor belt).
ramp:stroller=yes	A pair of ramps with a narrow flight of stairs in the middle that allows a stroller (and bicycles too) to be pushed up the stairs.
ramp:wheelchair=yes or ramp=separate if mapped as a separate way.	A ramp that can be used by wheelchairs. Do not confuse it with a stroller ramp: A wheelchair ramp shouldn't be steeper than 4-6% and should be wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair. Usable also by strollers.
ramp:luggage=yes/automatic	A ramp for luggage, often found at train stations. Automatic indicates it moves by itself (conveyor belt) while manual only provides an even surface where you can slide your luggage up and down more easily - this is more commonly mapped with yes.
ramp:portable=yes	The key ramp=* in combination with ramp:portable=yes is used to indicate if a portable ramp is present at an element. Portable means that the ramp can be carried or moved around and deployed where needed. They can be found for example at railway platforms to help wheelchair users getting on and off trains. Further characteristics of a portable ramp can be described using the keys: ramp:maxwidth:physical=* - The width in meters of a ramp's usable space. ramp:length=* - The total length of the ramp in meters. ramp:maxweight=* - The maximum load capacity of the ramp in metric tons (t). ramp:supervised=* - If the ramp is only operated by service workers.

Presets

Ramp is included in the internal JOSM preset (since version 8011).

You can also add presets that uses the proposed scheme to JOSM. Just add the "Steps properties" preset in the JOSM presets properties (http://osmtools.de/josm/steps.xml)
