AWIB-ISAW: Beneventum, Arch of Trajan (III) An inscription in Latin on the left side of the Arch of Trajan at Benevento, once the Roman town of Beneventum. The full inscription, continued in the next image, reads: IMP(peratori) CAESARI DIVI NERVAE FILIO NERVAE TRAIANO OPTIMO AUG(usto) GERMANICO DACICO PONTIF(ici) MAX(imo) TRIB(unicia) POTEST(ate) XVIII IMP(eratori) VI CO(n)S(uli) VI P(atri) P(atriae) FORTISSIMO PRINCIPI SENATUS P(opulus) Q(uo) R(omanus). Translated, it reads: To the Emperor, Caesar, Son of Divine Nerva, the most excellent Nerva Trajan Augustus Germanicus Dacicus (these two titles referencing successful campaigns in Germany and Dacia), Pontifex Maximus, with 18 years of tribunal power, seven times imperator, six times consul, father of the homeland and greatest leader of the Senate and the People of Rome. by George W.
