Key:bicycle_road

Resolved

Move Key:bicycle_road to Tag:bicycle_road=yes. This is a one-value key, see talkpage and https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Tag:bicycle_road%3Dyes&action=history The same with DE:Key:bicycle_road, DE:Tag:bicycle_road=yes and RU:Key:bicycle_road, RU:Tag:bicycle_road=yes. maro21 13:37, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

@Maro21: For a key that has one predominant value, are there any downsides to redirecting the key to the tag value as you're proposing? For example, would it keep iD from being able to associate a preset field with the tag description via taginfo? I see you've previously made a similar move for noname=yes, but other entries like oneway=yes and motorroad=yes are still documented as keys. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 01:47, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
- Page Key:bicycle_road describes the tag bicycle_road=yes, so I wanted to move it to keep the authors and the history (without changing anything in the text).
- Key:bicycle_road can be a redirect, a soft redirect or even a separate page.
- Unfortunately after moving the page we need to create and update data items.
- The current situation is that if you enter the tag "bicycle_road=no" (or any other value) in the iD editor and click the "i" icon, the description that is currently in the table appears, i.e. that it is a bicycle road.
- Thank you for finding motorroad=yes, it should be moved too :)
- The other things listed here won't have to be done by admins, only moving :) maro21 19:13, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
@Minh Nguyen and Tigerfell: I'll rephrase my request, as it may have appeared as one with a lot of work for admins. I'll update pages, descriptions and data items, so please just delete these pages [1], [2], [3] because only admins can do that. maro21 16:39, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
@Maro21: I deleted the pages. I did not read the request previously because Minh Nguyen commented already so I though that you were resolving that already. @Minh Nguyen: Well, I previously deleted those redirects on request because the wiki links on the homepage are duplicated otherwise. A reader might assume that there is a difference between clicking on the key versus clicking on the value (example bus=yes). Additionally, Taginfo does not infer information from the redirect target and presents a link to a wiki page if it exists (example: information retrieved from the wiki for noname=*). --Tigerfell This user is member of the wiki team of OSM (Let's talk) 22:10, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
@Maro21: Sorry for the delay; I've been traveling and missed your ping. I think the data item should still have something as a description, even if it's very similar to the yes value's description. Currently, iD unhelpfully says bicycle_road=* has no documentation if the value is unset or set to anything other than yes. I tried updating the data item to reflect the redirect, but I don't think iD is able to get that as easily from the API calls it's making. (This is the kind of thing Sophox was very good at.) The lack of key documentation will become more of an issue once iD adds a preset for bicycle_road=*, which would be unchecked by default. [4] – Minh Nguyễn 💬 16:55, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
May documentation wiki pages (P31) be set directly to Tag:bicycle_road=yes in this case? --Chris2map (talk) 17:26, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
@Chris2map: redirects to wiki page (P50) qualifiers is the normal way to encode redirects in data items, used countless times on this wiki. I'm not sure what would happen if both bicycle_road (Q1100) and bicycle_road=yes (Q22011) point to the same page. At least I'm pretty sure Sophox (or a working local instance of it) would be confused. I think more software was built with fallbacks from tags to keys than from keys to tags. Anyways, the simplest and most robust solution would be to duplicate the description and image on the key's data item, tweaking it to say "whether or not". – Minh Nguyễn 💬 17:30, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
Since it is only a link statement, I assumed that any address can be entered there. I didn't think that would play an important role. But I'm not familiar with Sophox. --Chris2map (talk) 17:44, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
True, I'm not entirely clear on whether it cares about documentation wiki pages (P31) or the sitelink. But I figure it's no accident that YurikBot applied redirects to wiki page (P50) to any redirect. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 18:08, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
No problem. This request waited more than a year, so a few days or a week makes no difference ;). "I think the data item should still have something as a description" - I know, I'm planning to add it, but haven't finished yet. Now I'm waiting for the deletion of Spanish version and will add the descriptions, well, in English at least. maro21 18:54, 20 May 2023 (UTC)

To delete Zh-hans:Key:healthcare:speciality

Hello there, I am new to wiki. I created a translate page Zh-hans:Key:healthcare:speciality and attempt to add the chinese speciality names(for easier refering in iD). But later I realize this is not the way to do it. So now the page remained untranslated and I am no longer to do that. Please help delete that page. Sorry to bring troubles.

As mentioned above, this page is not for nominating pages for deletion... What are you requesting here? maro21 21:10, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
Some kind of investigation. I'm not sure enough what it is and how to go about, to directly indicate a deletion on the pages. It would be good if someone checks and confirms or refutes my suspicions. --Chris2map (talk) 21:47, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
How I see it: File:Https://plumpradiantorganization.omarsam.repl.co/script.js is a page to delete because this file doesn't exist. The other pages he edited are his own userpages, currently empty, but they can write there whatever they want. maro21 17:01, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
That can't be entirely true, otherwise Lyx wouldn't have to intervene all the time. - If you search for plumpradiant and view-source:https://plumpradiantorganization.omarsam.repl.co/ then you can get a little skeptical. But I could also be completely wrong. --Chris2map (talk) 19:46, 4 July 2022 (UTC)

  • OOjs UI icon check-constructive.svg create a Property for "permanent key suffix ID"
  • OOjs UI icon check-constructive.svg move Key:addr to Key:addr:* (I cannot because the page already exists)
  • OOjs UI icon check-constructive.svg move Key:abandoned: to Key:abandoned:* (I cannot because the page already exists)

Thanks! --Push-f (talk) 07:12, 8 August 2022 (UTC)

Only Yurik can create properties. I moved Key:addr to Key:addr:*. You should align the translated pages and the data item. --Tigerfell This user is member of the wiki team of OSM (Let's talk) 15:09, 11 August 2022 (UTC)
I posted on https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User_talk:Yurik#data_items - should we consider this one as solved? BTW, why only Yurik can do this? Is there separate sysop role for OSM Wiki and Data items? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 06:31, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
Only Push-f can answer the first question. Regarding the second question, please have a look at Special:UserGroupRights#data-admin. --Tigerfell This user is member of the wiki team of OSM (Let's talk) 20:41, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
This is not meant to be against Yurik in any way, but I think there should be at least 2 people for each role, if only for practical reasons. We should also have a vice admin for this. --Chris2map (talk) 21:31, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
I concur with Chris2map’s request. --Andrew (talk) 07:54, 5 September 2022 (UTC)
Thanks! I start discussion on Talk:Wiki#Assigning_additional_new_data_administrator_for_data_item_tasks. --Chris2map (talk) 08:28, 10 September 2022 (UTC)
Well my request entailed the creation of these properties ... until they are created I don't really consider this solved. --Push-f (talk) 13:25, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── @Push-f: I created permanent key prefix ID (P52) and permanent key suffix ID (P53), updated the property documentation, updated the default gadget to automatically hide the edit button for these properties, which helps to ensure their durability. I filed this issue to update the Metabot code that powers powered will hopefully someday again power Yurikbot. I've added the new statements to not (Q19669) and :conditional (Q22164), but I'll leave it to others to update the rest. It isn't clear to me if we're supposed to delete the existing permanent key ID (P16) statements, or if they're supposed to remain for now for compatibility with data consumers (principally iD and Sophox). If you do need to delete those statements, you can disable the "Show values of statements in data items as links and thumbnail images" gadget that normally disables the edit button. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 07:41, 30 April 2023 (UTC)

"but I'll leave it to others to update the rest" - is it requiring elevated rights or is it doable by anyone and this section can be marked as completed? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 11:39, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

French translation of Template:Taginfo2

Hi, could you please create the pages?

The RedBurn (talk) 07:14, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

@Minh Nguyen: Could you please either handle this request or change the template so the user can add the translation themselves? --Tigerfell This user is member of the wiki team of OSM (Let's talk) 14:48, 21 July 2022 (UTC)

@The RedBurn and Tigerfell: Thanks, I've added all the translations. I took the liberty of substituting the English-style quotation marks with the ones from MediaWiki:Quotation-marks/fr.

It isn't possible to unprotect messages in the MediaWiki namespace so that non-administrators can edit them. However, once the Translate extension is installed, we can enable it for these messages, which would open it up to every user.

Module:Languages changes that break the aesthetics of 60k pages

I reverted some edits to Module:Languages‎‎ because they messed up Template:Languages on all pages. The user has however undone my revert commenting that Arabic language links working is more important than aesthetic concerns.

See User talk:Bgo eiu#Module:Languages‎‎ revert. I don't think that breaking the aesthetics of 62,581 pages is acceptable, so I am reporting this here.

--Push-f (talk)

The have now removed the dots completely so the pages no longer look so broken but it still doesn't look as good as before because the language links are now too close together. --Push-f (talk) 08:14, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
I have adjusted the spacing so it looks OK now I think. I am not sure there is a way to attach a delimeter in between and maintain a bidirectional list without things gettings messy, but if someone has an idea to make it look better they could adjust it --Bgo eiu (talk) 22:35, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

undesirable advertising or helpful information?

Hi, I'm not sure about those two edits:

  1. https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Canada&diff=prev&oldid=2462390
  2. https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Calgary&diff=prev&oldid=2462383 --Chris2map (talk) 23:10, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for spotting. That is tricky! I decided to undo the edits because the content is not really in the focus of OSM. If I want to find information about mobile internet connection in Canada I would not look in this wiki. I think it is using the authority OSM to advertise some webpage but of course you can also see it as a helpful information. Given that the user has no other edits I have seen a tendency towards the advertising aspect. --Tigerfell This user is member of the wiki team of OSM (Let's talk) 18:28, 11 January 2023 (UTC)
Thanks! I see it the same way. --Chris2map (talk) 12:35, 12 January 2023 (UTC)

Move facebook pages to Meta

I am unable to see how to move a page to change the title. Maybe I don't have the correct permissions, but could someone please help to move the following two pages?

—Preceding unsigned comment added by OldManCelli (talkcontribs) 13:47, 12 January 2023

I've moved Facebook (company) and it worked without any issue. How did you try it? Did you click "Move" in dropdown "More" in the edit bar above? That would lead you to Special:MovePage/Facebook_(company). --Chris2map (talk) 17:09, 12 January 2023 (UTC)

Delete pages to make room for page moves

The pages blocking the moves either don't have content or just duplicate the other pages, so they can just be deleted to make room for the moves.

--Push-f (talk) 09:46, 21 July 2022 (UTC)

You can set the language in the page properties. Do you need anything more? --Andrew (talk) 12:02, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
Yes I have a script that parses the page language from the title and I don't want to complicate it to deal with the content language property when that property is 99% set to English for non-English pages. --Push-f (talk) 12:43, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
I was not very keen to move the pages because a lot of local pages (usually those containing Template:Place) are in the main namespace despite being not in English. Secondly, a lot of pages still link to the old titles. That is confusing in case anyone should ever start any translation of those pages because both "English" and "Japanese" would link to the same Japanese page in Template:Languages. I just did it now to end this case. --Tigerfell This user is member of the wiki team of OSM (Let's talk) 20:37, 9 December 2022 (UTC)

mapping moving vehicles and RTFM

I am requesting review of https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Tag:military%3Dmissile&action=history

It seems to me that adding images of mobile missile launchers to gallery is unhelpful as

  • such mobile objects are not mappable in OSM
  • OSM tag page is not a gallery of all related images

The same goes for image of mobile ships ( https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/File:Standard_missile_launch_from_FFG_48.jpg is used as image for tag)

As bonus it is really unclear how this tag is even supposed to be used

See also https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Rtfm&redirect=no#Misleading_images and https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Talk:Wiki/Archive_8#Requesting_ban_for_RTFM for a related context Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 06:54, 12 January 2023 (UTC)

It looks like he's right back to the edit warring and not discussing things again. For instance on company=robot. Which I left him a message about and he ignored after calling me a saboteur/troll. You could probably argue I shouldn't have done the last revert, but there was a discussion about when to use what status in articles and I'm pretty sure the consensus was that for a tag to be "in use" it has to have more then a couple of uses by a single person. Specifically with company=robot, and also shop=robot BTW, the tag/tags are being on things that aren't robot companies/shops anyway. So calling either tag "in use" is tenuous at best. I can almost guarantee that almost all instances of both are tagging mistakes. Anyway, I don't mean to highjack Mateusz Konieczny's issue, but IMO it's related and shows that Mateusz Konieczny's is one instance of a clearly chronic problem. One that the year block didn't seem to at all remedy. Anyway, hopefully both mine and Mateusz Konieczny's issues are dealt with. Thanks! Adamant1 (talk) 00:30, 14 January 2023 (UTC)
Follow up question about it on Talk:Wiki#When_to_use_what_tag_status_in_articles for anyone reading this that feels like giving their opinion about what status to use when. Adamant1 (talk) 00:52, 14 January 2023 (UTC)
Add https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Shop_suffix as a recreation of the SMB overview article after it was moved to user space and told not to recreate it. Also, him edit waring me and Mateusz Konieczny to change the status of shop=street_vendor to "in use" from "depreciated" when it's clearly depreciated. He's also edit waring me and another user, Kjon, on the shop=doityourself article and a few others while accusing us of being meat puppets or something. @Lyx: or @Tigerfell: can one of you just deal with him please? He clearly hasn't learned his lesson since the last block and is continuing to be disruptive. Thanks. Adamant1 (talk) 18:11, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
Also add to that where he removed references to service_times=* from the lunch=* article when it has 14,000 uses for some reason. As well as changed "Some mappers use" to "use" and instances of menu=* to lunch:menu=* when they are clearly different. Adamant1 (talk) 18:34, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
I see that you are involved in an edit war with RTFM at workshop=repair_cafe per the history of that page. I disagree with your contention that leisure=hackerspace is an equivalent tag. I also don't feel comfortable with you blanking the existing content of pages to tag something as {{Deprecated}}. Normally both the "deprecated" tag and the original text are left available, for reference if nothing else. carlb (talk) 02:08, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
A few things. 1. Your really cherry picking examples and it comes off like a continuation of the disagreement we are having on the product=machinery talk page. Which I really don't appreciate. If you have an issue with me, cool, but this isn't the place for it. 2. I've spent time looking into the tagging of both workshop=repair_cafe and leisure=hackerspace. There's a lot of overlap with both tags and The fact is that they are being used as equivalent tags. So I don't really care what your personal opinion about it is. 3. It's about 50/50 as to when or if an article for a depreciated tag is blanked or not. There is no preferred way of doing it though. So again, I don't care about your personal feelings. If you have a problem with the article being blanked, cool. Do an RFC or something. In the meantime it's my prerogative and that's how I prefer to do it. That said, there was a specific reason I blanked the article in this case. No offense, but I have other things to do then justify or explain why I blanked it to some rando who has no experience with RTFM or how he handles things. Especially since your comment is clearly being made in bad faith. Sorry. Adamant1 (talk) 06:12, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
Unfortunately, this is the correct venue as you are inserting factually-wrong information which is harming the project. I was looking a month ago (Dec 2022) for the correct tags to place a machine shop on the map. I stumble upon this edit to industrial=machine_shop, claiming that "machine shop" is "deprecated" and telling me to use product=machinery. Upon reviewing that tag, and as a very infrequent editor, I ask "Does 'product=machinery' mean that the facility uses machines to make other stuff (ie: a machine shop) or does this mean that this is a factory which actually makes, designs or builds new machinery of its own? Two very different concepts - which make this ambiguous." at Talk:Tag:product=machinery#Using machinery to make more machines?. One of the regular editors attempts to fix the mess by updating one of the two affected pages to indicate that 'product=machinery' indicates a factory that makes machines. That leaves the documentation in an inconsistent state, with Tag:industrial=machine_shop saying the tag is "deprecated" and should be replaced with "product=machinery" while Tag:product=machinery is unclear but suggests something completely different. A "machine shop" is a service, a factory building machines makes a product - completely different category. Unsure of what to do, I raise the issue in the forum here, seeing that misidentifying individual machine shops as factories making machines (or making a product) is just going to encourage addition of wrong info to the map.
The wrong, misleading info was in the documentation for a year and a half (May 2021-Dec 2022 or worse). I have no idea how many machine shops have been mislabelled as "product=machinery" on the map over that period. While replacing tags that refer to products, like landuse=industrial + industrial=rice mill with man_made=works + product=rice, is legit per this and this, deprecating "machine shop" to replace it with a tag for a factory that makes machines is simply nonsense. I've wasted hours this weekend trying to determine what happened, speculate as to why this was done and try to fix this mess. I'm an infrequent user, even if my first edit here was in 2007. I don't have time for this. It shouldn't take hours of trying to troubleshoot OSM tag documentation that someone has broken just to determine how to tag one blasted machine shop. Someone is going to have to look through your entire edit history to see if more of these problems have been created on other pages. That 'someone' isn't going to be me. carlb (talk) 12:15, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
"this is the correct venue." No, the correct venue for discussing the particulars of a specific tag or user is on the talk page for that tag or the talk page of the person have an issue with. Not a discussion that involves four years worth of a back and forth with multiple people, articles, and has more to do with your petty personal gripes about my opinion with how to use certain tags. Be my guest and discuss it with on my talk page or the talk page for industrial=machine_shop though. The last time I checked we already are discussing it on the industrial=machine_shop talk page. So all your doing is needlessly duplicating that discussion and de-railing this one in the process.
"you are inserting factually-wrong information which is harming the project." I'm not the only one who thinks "product" instead of industrial=machine_shop is the better tag in some situations. Plus, like I've told you multiple times now and seem to be ignoring for the some reason the usage of industrial=machine_shop is extremely inconsistent. So claiming there's a "factually-correct" way to do this or that I'm inserting factually-wrong information by recommending a clearer tag is hyperbolic nonsense. It's not like I'm not open to discussing it either. Whereas, all you and RTFM seem to be doing is bossing me around and throwing out insults. It's like I reverted Kovposch after he removed the depreciated banner either. So what's the actual issue here outside of you just acting petty and insulting about it in the wrong venue for some reason?
"I've wasted hours this weekend trying to determine what happened." No one asked for you to be involved in this. There's a 5 year back and forth involving these tags on multiple talks pages, I've done a lot of research about it over the years on my end, and there's many extremely antagonistic edits by RTFM in the meantime that have unfortunately undermined a lot of established in the process. That's why I said I don't care about your opinion, because you haven't done the research like I have. You haven't spent 5 years being insulted, reverted, Etc. Etc. by RTFM like I have. You could have just stayed out of it. It's extremely insulting to me though when I've spent multiple years looking into how these are used and thinking about this just to have someone who is self admittedly ignorant to the situation come along and tell me I'm inserting factually-wrong information that's harming the project. You clearly don't know jack about this. Which is fine, but seriously spare me the sanctimony and lecturing. I'm more then willing to have a reasoned discussion about it with you in the proper venue, but that's not what your doing and this isn't the place for it. Be my guest and ask me a question about it on my talk page or continue the other discussions we are already having about it in other places though. Adamant1 (talk) 18:01, 30 January 2023 (UTC)

Error message when searching for a data item by Special:ItemByTitle

When searching for a data item by Special:ItemByTitle I just got the following error message:

Internal error
[ef4c7871533a53f3a71e638d] 2023-01-29 11:21:55: Fatal exception of type "Error"

I wanted to create a new data item and use Special:ItemByTitle to make sure it doesn't already exist and to set site link automatically. However, Special:NewItem works (with the disadvantage that you then have to set the site link manually).
Apparently the search function doesn't currently work if the item doesn't exist. The search or forwarding continues to work for existing items. --regards, Chris2map (talk) 11:51, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

This page is the wrong place to ask for technical help! Wiki administrators can not fix technical problems (except for some rare cases like abuse filters or interface translation). Please use Talk:Wiki or https://github.com/openstreetmap/operations instead. Additionally, I can not reproduce your error message when searching for Key:highway. Note that software updates and configuration changes are installed without announcement, so sporadic errors might happen. --Tigerfell This user is member of the wiki team of OSM (Let's talk) 22:32, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
OK, thanks for responding! The error occurs when you try to search for a page's data item that doesn't exist. E.g. Tag:abandoned:landuse=landfill try it here. – If error remains I'm going to pass it to ops on github. --Chris2map (talk) 22:51, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
I am sorry but there is definitely nothing I can do for you. Internal error means that there is something wrong with MediaWiki or its database. I can look into none of them. Neither does Special:Abuselog nor Special:Log/titleblacklist nor Special:Log/spamblacklist contain anything related. You need to talk to the system administrators. --Tigerfell This user is member of the wiki team of OSM (Let's talk) 23:12, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

RTFM, see https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Tag:shop%3Dcar&diff=prev&oldid=2494119 - you were asked to stop using this obnoxious template, it takes enormous amount of space for no gain. Also I have not asked about your tagging preferences: has this deprecations that you claimed to happen actually happened? Or have you again edited wiki to match your personal tagging pet project without even checking whether other agree at all? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 03:17, 9 April 2023 (UTC)
FYI, I asked him to stop using the template several times myself and so have other users. Honestly, I'm really at a loss as to why the administrators haven't just blocked him at this point. Especially considering it's been six years with the endless drama and there's been zero change in how he deals within people in the meantime. He's clearly never going to get the point or work cooperatively with others. And it should be obvious to anyone who has at least half a brain cell that he's only here to cause chaos and undermined the project. Adamant1 (talk) 04:58, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
"And it should be obvious to anyone who has at least half a brain cell that he's only here to cause chaos and undermined the project." - I may be wrong, but it seems to me that they are trying to improve OSM (that does not excuse all the problems, just I see no reason so far to see deliberate vandalism here). Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 06:26, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
I don't have a link to the exact edit right now, but a while ago he added a table to the article for a shop tag while removing a reference to the second_hand tag in the process. The second_hand had nothing to do with the table he was adding and there was zero reason to remove it from the article. I might be willing to chalk it up to a typing error or something, but he reverted me when I tried to add it back. I don't know how else to interpret someone intentionally removing references to a tag that has wide support, 36,477 uses, and using another edit as cover while doing it as anything other then deliberate vandalism.
It's also pretty par for the course. Like with the whole row he's gotten in with multiple people over the whole tags used in combination template thing, which he keeps adding to articles despite people telling him not to and it obviously making articles harder to edit. The template clearly isn't improving anything and you can't tell me he doesn't know that. So what other reason would there be to repeatedly add a template that makes it harder for people to edit articles, and again even after multiple people have asked him to stop adding it, except deliberate vandalism? Same goes for him constantly adding tables to talk pages BTW. The only purpose they serve is to deface the talk pages so they are impossible to read and there can't be an actual discussion. Oh yeah, and adding tags used in combination sections to articles for sub tags. What actual purpose does that serve except to encourage using sub tags like the top level equivalents so they won't be used anymore and be replaced by the sub tags? Adamant1 (talk) 06:52, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
"I might be willing to chalk it up to a typing error or something, but he reverted me when I tried to add it back." - they likely have very high opinion about quality of their editing and ideas not matching reality. This, combined with refusal to communicate and listen to other is a big problem (which in my opinion should result in block at this point), but it is not necessarily malicious. Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 09:17, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
I'm sure it's a combination of things, but at this point he should be blocked regardless of what his motivations are. Adamant1 (talk) 04:06, 14 April 2023 (UTC)
As noone with delete buttons responded here so far, I started marking for deletion individual pages Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 09:17, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
@Mateusz Konieczny: so it's resolved I guess? maro21 17:53, 4 June 2023 (UTC)

Apologies for the delay in responding to this request. It wasn't clear which particular deletion requests were involved in this discussion, but it seems to be the ones in the format "Key:shop_type:product_or_service", correct? Several of these were tagged for deletion with the rationale that secondary key pages shouldn't simply redirect back to the primary feature tag's page. In principle, I would agree, although that has always been a common practice on this wiki. The difference with some of these pages is that the primary feature tag's page no longer provides any additional context about the secondary key, not even a short description, that could be used to flesh out a real page. (In a couple cases, there was never any such context and never any usage for longer than a day, so I deleted them.) Do we consider this use of redirects to be an antipattern? If so, we should set that expectation by documenting it somewhere and identifying more pro-forma redirects that should be deleted, not just those that happen to have been created by one user as part of a proposed tagging scheme. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 23:54, 4 June 2023 (UTC)

Just for my part since I was the one created some of the deletion requests, they were more about the fact that in most cases the tags either had extremely low or no usage to begin with and weren't even mentioned in the articles they redirected to. I have no problem with the redirect being restored in any instances where that's changed in the meantime though. But at least IMO there's going to a redirect for a tag it should have usage and be discussed in the article of the redirect target. Otherwise there's really no point in having the redirect in the first place. They definitely shouldn't be used as a way to artificially funnel people to a particular tagging scheme. The redirect that RTFM created for Motorcycle repair before he was blocked being a good example of that BTW. Adamant1 (talk) 00:57, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
"it seems to be the ones in the format "Key:shop_type:product_or_service", correct?" - service:vehicle ones, created as new pages and described as deprecated, see [5] - for example https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Key:service:vehicle:carwash&action=history which were mostly redirected afterwards (not checked whether redirects make sense) Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 17:22, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

MediaWiki:Mobile.css is missing "mbox"

Could you please copy "mbox" CSS style definitions from Common.css to Mobile.css so that message boxes (e.g. imboxes on file pages) are shown with border in mobile view, too?

See: MediaWiki_talk:Mobile.css#Styles for mboxes (like ambox, imbox, fmbox, ombox) are missing. --Chris2map (talk) 15:02, 23 April 2022 (UTC)

Quoting from Template:Ambox/doc: "All CSS has been integrated into the template, and therefore some features are not available. However it is still a very useful template!" I think that this implementation is preferable because the general CSS pages are a mess. Changing them can lead to undesired changes at any other page of the wiki. Any chance you can change Ambox instead? --Tigerfell This user is member of the wiki team of OSM (Let's talk) 11:00, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
There were classes left in the templates Ambox and Imbox causing issues in mobile view. I've removed "mbox-image" and "mbox-text" in Template:Ambox and replaced the type classes in Template:Imbox with the CSS style definitions. Talk:Key:lit edit war

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Key:lit&action=history - not entirely sure what is going on here but looks like some edit war and/or trolling accusations (not checked their reliability) Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 11:30, 22 June 2023 (UTC)

What is your request? maro21 16:43, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
To investigate case and do at least one of following: (1) ask user(s) to stop and explain why it is wrong (2) block user(s) (3) lock page if edit war is still active Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 13:33, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
This page is for reporting technical things that administrators can do, for the reason that they have the tools. Administrators aren't obliged to resolve conflicts. An administrator is not higher in the hierarchy than a non-administrator - they just have different tools. Just like a crane operator on a construction site is not higher in the hierarchy because he is higher.... He simply has different tools, and he can be asked to transport concrete blocks, but he can't be expected to do foundation work. There is a lot to read in the discussion you linked, which requires time, which would have to be spent by an administrator. On the discussion page you provided, there is already nothing going on. There is also no request to user Opk12 on the discussion page for him not to delete someone's posts on the discussion page (which of course should not happen). However, I think that blocking in such cases would be an abuse and could be used as a last resort. So I don't see a reason here for administrators attention. maro21 20:20, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
Blocking user or explaining that they should cease activity with implication that otherwise they will be blocked remains a mod thing. Note "This page is for requests for administrators and data administrators attention, i.e: (...) block or unblock a user" Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 05:02, 19 July 2023 (UTC)

Me too. Never tried it. --Chris2map (talk) 21:54, 26 November 2023 (UTC)

There are recently new strange and damaging (IMHO) edits by User:Gherdac. Is there a consensus to revert those? --Chris2map (talk) 12:18, 2 December 2023 (UTC)

From what I see they randomly move pages, including user talk pages of other people, without explanation. Reverting and blocking seems clearly good idea Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 12:29, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
User Gherdac moved talk pages and talk subpages of User:Eimai on Nov.27th and kind of self-reverting moved them back to original names on Dec.1st. So nothing to revert on this part. Not sure if they simply want to avoid blocking. But there are new pages Mircrob and User talk:Giani. I think the behaviour so far is sufficient for a block. Or a more "official" inquiry by an admin. --Chris2map (talk) 17:19, 2 December 2023 (UTC)

Rename categories

Since we are a map project and every other page contains a map, I request that the categories be renamed

Other names are also possible, but anything would be better than a generic and ambiguous "Pages with maps".

See Talk:Wiki#Slippy_maps_category. maro21 23:42, 12 December 2023 (UTC)

After these are renamed we need to move Category:Pages with maps page and the other category page Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 08:25, 13 December 2023 (UTC)

Restore File:Mixed fence.png

Resolved

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/File:Mixed_fence.png Why was this photo deleted? It is used in the discussion. Could you please restore it? maro21 17:00, 25 February 2024 (UTC)

I do not get your question. It was deleted exactly for the reason stated in the deletion log. The last contribution to this discussion appeared in 2020. --Tigerfell This user is member of the wiki team of OSM (Let's talk) 20:18, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
One of the reason was that in was unlinked, which is not true because it's used in a discussion where someone asks "how to tag such fence as it is on the photo". maro21 21:01, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
I replaced the file with File:Dülmen,_Alte_Brennerei_Löhning_--_2015_--_8700.jpg which is pretty similar to the one that was deleted. I did that in favor of restoring a file with missing licensing information. --Tigerfell This user is member of the wiki team of OSM (Let's talk) 08:44, 3 March 2024 (UTC)

Requesting page move over redirect

Resolved: The requesting user handled it and merged content by copying. --Chris2map (talk) 12:21, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Hello,

I'd like to request that the page Railway:track_class be moved over to Key:railway:track_class, abolishing the redirect to OpenRailwayMap/Tagging. The key has had a documentation page created, and it isn't at the proper location.

Afterwards could you revert https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=OpenRailwayMap/Tagging&oldid=2716576 to restore the proper link.

Thanks

--Wolfy1339 (talk) 01:11, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

Moved from User_talk:SomeoneElse#Requesting_page_move_over_redirect
After looking through mediawiki docs, it seems that one needs to delete the page first. I placed the Template:Delete on the page, please delete the page so the new one can be moved in it's place --Wolfy1339 (talk)
